Meet David Pierce

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Pierce.

David, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born in Danbury, Connecticut and raised in Lake Forest, Illinois. Since graduating from the University of Arizona with a bachelor’s degree in Regional Development and minor in Economics, I’ve worked in both commercial and residential real estate for about 20 years.  Before becoming a realtor in Arizona, I joined a commercial real estate firm in Chicago, but after 9/11, I had to take a job in commercial leasing and site acquisition with the FAA.  Once in Phoenix, I returned to commercial real estate but quickly transitioned to residential at Russ Lyon Sotheby’s International Realty after analyzing market trends.  In my first year, I was awarded Rookie of the Year with the most purchase loans closed in a year.  After about 10 years, I decided to join boutique firm before taking on a new challenge in starting my own brokerage.

My brokerage, Hidden Rock Realty, had 9 agents on its sales team for a 49 unit luxury, green development in downtown Cave Creek.   Sales took longer than expected so the developer decided to choose a larger brokerage.  While closing the brokerage was disappointing, it led to a new opportunity with Re/Max Excalibur as part of the Boomtown lead generation campaign.  I used lead capture as part of my regular business practice.  Eventually, this led me to My Home Group Real Estate.  My Home Group, with its amazing leadership, is part of INC’s 500 fastest growing companies.  The leadership at this firm not only helped me grow my business but also reconnected me with commercial real estate opportunities via MHG Commercial.  Now, my business offers a full suite of services for clients and allows me to pull from all of my experiences over the past 20 years.

When not working, I enjoy the outdoors partially because of my experiences when I was young as a life scout, camping, scuba diving, hiking, boating, biking, running, swimming, diving and playing football.  I love a good science fiction book or movie.  I currently live in Scottsdale with my wife and three children.

Has it been a smooth road?
While my college and career experiences have been what you may expect from a 20-year veteran, I’ve had personal challenges that made me adapt and overcome.  In middle school, I was diagnosed with a learning disability, dysgraphia, which makes it more difficult to express thoughts in writing.  Because of the great services I received in school, my counselors recommended the SALT (Strategic Alternative Learning Techniques) program at the University of Arizona.  This program helped me through college and advised me on careers that I could thrive.

And then in high school, I broke my back during football practice during my sophomore year which ultimately led to multiple back surgeries while I worked to finish my college education and serve my clients in their real estate pursuits.  Through the support of team members and family and my own stubbornness, I have learned to stay positive, productive and proactive in being a husband, father and provider for my family.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
As a true real estate generalist, I have sold hundreds of homes in the Phoenix Metro area as well as handled all sorts of commercial real estate transactions. I enjoy being a one-stop shop for client needs.  In my work, I support multiple parties in gathering all the necessary due diligence in a timely fashion, often helping to interpret contractual language and bring things to a close no matter the type of real estate or structure of the agreement.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Digital marketing and relationships are changing how we do business—this includes real estate transactions.  I work hard to continue to learn about these tools and keep my clients informed.
