Meet Darrylee Cohen of Haute Photography & Videography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darrylee Cohen.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I used to work in marketing and promotions for radio stations and always loved photography as a hobby. Whenever the radio stations had big concerts and events I would always volunteer to take photos at the events to recap the event back to our clients. (And it was a good excuse to go backstage to meet all the rock stars!).

After I had my kids, I tried being a “stay at home mom” and found that I was anxious to go back to work. A friend of mine knew I liked photography and talked me into volunteering for my son’s elementary school yearbook. Working on the yearbook reminded me how much I love photography and I decided that it was time to start my own business.

I hit the ground running utilizing all of my radio marketing skills and made some amazing client relationships with some of the upscale malls, retail store, art museums and charities s photographing all of their events and working with the local magazine publications to submit photos from the events. Over the past 10 years, I have grown Haute Photography & Videography into the most amazing team of 17 photographers and videographers and we cover all of the biggest events in Phoenix!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have been very lucky to have an extremely supportive husband, family and friends. I worked many late nights, weekends and holidays and spent many long nights on the computer while I was building the business. I live and breathe the business so it can be emotional when you miss out on a big opportunity. There were many times in the beginning when I thought about giving up and going back to a 9 to 5 job. But I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. My passion and persistence got me through the hard times and it was worth it!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Haute Photography & Videography story. Tell us more about the business.
Haute Photography & Videography is a highly experienced team of professional photographers and videographers. We specialize in corporate events, community events, grand openings, award ceremonies, charity events and galas, fashion shows festivals and more!

I am most proud of my amazingly talented team! They are not only incredible photographers and videographers but they are awesome people and I think that is really what sets us apart from the competition. We are friendly and happy to be at your event and we are flexible and prepared for any challenges that we may face at a live event.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t know if I would call it luck, but I definitely think a positive attitude has played a huge part in my life and my business. I only focus on success and do not let the bad days affect me. I find the positive in everything and always make a point to learn from mistakes.
