Meet Darek Bell of Mesa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darek Bell.

Hi Darek, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started as an installer in 2000 in the garage door business. I was installed for 2 different companies til 2018. I worked in sales and did very well for 2 years. I decided to start my own business in 2020. The first year took off, and we haven’t looked back since. I plan to continue growing and offer the best service possible to the Phoenix Metro area.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The recession in 2008 was a big hurdle for my family. Watching other business owners (friends of mine) lose their businesses and livelihood made it challenging to predict or decide when would be an excellent time to take my career to the next level. Endless hours of work, side jobs, and the sacrifice of being away from my wife and children was the hardest part.

Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
I run a business trying to change the thought and mentality of a customer needing garage door assistance. The trending way of this business is that service techs and installers are commission salesmen trained to upscale products for profit, whether needed or not. This sale tactic has left customers with bad experiences and hesitant about who to call. We are the opposite of that. We take pride in treating our customers as we would like to be treated. If you wouldn’t do it at home, don’t do theirs. Treat every job like it’s your mom’s home.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
We learned that people appreciate taking that extra step to be contactless and sympathetic to their needs in a crisis. We made it simple for customers to refrain from interacting with our techs if they choose to.
