Today we’d like to introduce you to Danny Daley.
Danny, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my studies in Fitness and Nutrition back in the U.K. at London Metropolitan University where I studied Sports and Biological Sciences. There I conducted a yearlong research study as part of my thesis, on Somatotypes-dealing with Genetics, body types and the effect this has on achieving certain fitness goals. This study has aided me in my success as a personal trainer, Bodybuilding competitor, Bodyguard, and Military Professional. After getting my degree over 20 years ago I have gone on to work at the former Jack LaLanne studio in New York, which Bally bought out many years ago. I was one of the original Personal Trainers as Jack LaLanne was the brains behind the idea of “personal training”. I’ve trained celebrities, athletes in all categories whether it’s collegiate, Middle school or professional, and all of them that have desired to achieve national recognition for their skills have gone on to do so. Amidst this, I am also a trained martial artists and combat fighter, of which skills I’ve used in a 20 year bodyguard career, my military career in both the Queens Protection in London, and as a U.S. Army Paratrooper here in America. After some injuries in the military here in the U.S. forced me into retirement about 8 years ago, I started doing personal training and athletic coaching again and opened up Summit Physique Fitness where we take all the skills that I’ve learned over the years and help motivate and train individuals in the arts of fitness and wellness, athletics, martial arts, combat style kickboxing and boot camps, fighting techniques and self defense.
Has it been a smooth road?
In the beginning, when I first began to train again after I medically retired from the military, I still walked with a cane and it was hard not to be able to do some of the things I was used to doing physically. Then, when I got serious into deciding that I was going to depend on this as an income, there was the time that it took to get our name out there and build it to a business that could provide for me and my family. And then once again when we decided to go from training individuals in their homes to a Brick and Mortar operation, we had some new goals to meet and we faced some challenges with employees and ensuring that our clients’ needs were met. It’s difficult because I operate on a different level and it’s hard sometimes to find trainers that can operate on that level or think the way that I do and take care of our clients the way I like to. But we’ve been really fortunate with some of our trainers and we have a really great team now.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Summit Physique Fitness story. Tell us more about the business.
At Summit Physique Fitness we do a little bit of everything from my combat days and personal training. So we do personal training, we do athletic training, we have coaches that specialize in baseball, basketball, track and field events, football, we have our Bootcamps run by military personal and MMA fighters, then there’s the Muay Thai, Combat style Kickboxing, where attendees get the chance to do some sparring and then we offer self defense as well.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
We have a sister company Goda Fitness Innovations where we’ve been working on a product that we are getting ready to launch in the New Year and we plan to use this product to better the things that we already teach. The fitness industry is really going to be converging with the health industry. There are initiatives in place already to bridge the gap between health care and fitness, as they go hand in hand in ensuring the health and physically well-being of all individuals, and we are really excited to see that shift and look forward to working with health care professionals to combat disease through fitness and wellness classes and instruction and help people lead better lives again.
