Today we’d like to introduce you to Danika Sweetser.
Danika, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started Beauty School in 2007 when I was 18 years old. Since I was a little girl, I found the beauty industry to interesting. Cosmetology came naturally to me and has always “fed my soul” so to speak. I love every aspect of this industry. From all the amazing artists, I have met along the way, the amazing people that I have had the pleasure to work on and the creativity I myself get to have everyday. I worked for a chain salon from 2008-2016. I was given tons of education and opportunity but in 2016, I found myself uninspired and running out of gas. I know from experience that I will not grow unless I push myself out of my comfort zone and that’s when I took the LEAP and went in to business for myself. It has truly been a refreshing, exciting and inspiring journey so far.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road the whole time. When I was going through a period of time that I was uninspired I felt, as if I wasn’t giving my all to my clients. I think one of my unique traits that makes me the hair stylist that I am is my ability to form strong, genuine relationships with whoever is in my chair. During that period, I was falling away from that. Thankfully, I have that back plus more.
Danika at Radiant Hair – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My business, Radiant Hair, is me. I’m proud of what I’m building. I’m proud of what I’m accomplishing, what I’m giving to others and what I stand for. I have a big highlight/blonding clientele. I love seeing a transformation from drab to bright and fresh, it’s so beautiful to me. What sets me apart from others is the experience my client will have. Not only will they leave looking fabulous but they will leave feeling the same on the inside. I love celebrating people. Getting to know them, build a relationship, give support through life as life comes and helping them realize their beauty – both women and men.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is happiness and contentment. It’s not about my bank account or material THINGS. If at the end of the day, I can say to myself that I made others feel good, it was a success. Of course, I want to be self supporting doing what I love and in my career so far, that has been my blessing.
