Meet Dania Blanco of Cosmiix Artistry Makeup by Dania

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dania Blanco.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Dania. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My name is Dania Blanco, daughter of a Costa Rican immigrant. In fact, I too am an immigrant. I was born in San Jose, Costa Rica and brought to the United States at the age of 2. My mother came to this country like most in hopes of a better life for her and her younger daughter. My father later followed. But returned to Costa Rica years later. My mother raised 3 successful children in her own. One of which, my brother, serves in the Marine Corps and is currently on his 7th deployment in Afghanistan.

I had a career in law enforcement for 12 years as an investigator in the Sex Crimes Unit when I decided I needed an outlet and enrolled at Maxima School of Makeup Artistry school in Scottsdale, Arizona in 2008. I attended evening class since I still had a full-time job to go to every day.

While in school, the Director of the school sent me out on a job on a film set before I even graduated. That set was the beginning of my career as a film makeup and hair artist. After graduation, I decided to establish my business and came up with a name. A name which represents the mix of services I offer… Cosmetics/mix.. Cosmiix Artistry.

Since then, my business had taken off. From photo shoots to film productions. I was making my rounds and networking with other filmmakers and anyone in the industry who would talk to me. I soaked my hands in special effects makeup and took classes to learn how to style hair. I wanted to make myself marketable in various aspects of the industry. I set goals which I met before the given deadline and found myself quickly known for my skills not only in beauty makeup and special effects makeup but also for my attitude and work ethic on set. I quickly expanded my skills to weddings and special occasion clients. All while working a full-time job.

In 2014, independent film contracts were coming in at a regular rate. I had come to the fork in the road having to decide on finishing my law enforcement career or taking the risk and focus on Cosmiix and become a full-time business owner. It took me a few days of thought, prayer to finally make that life-changing decision to submit my resignation to my lieutenant. After 18.5 years of working for the Gilbert Police Department, I threw caution to the wind and walked away from the stability of a pension and well paid full-time job. I have never looked back.

Today, I am a published makeup and hair artist, I have over 20 IMDB film credits, I have worked on several national commercials, I have traveled the country to work on amazing film productions, music videos and I have expanded my services to include lash extensions and permanent makeup. I am proud to say that I have a small studio in the heart of Gilbert, Arizona where I see a lot of my clients. However, I market myself as a mobile beauty provider for hair and makeup services.

My goals include to grow my studio to include several makeup stations, blow out services, and a Cosmiix cosmetics line. This little Costa Rican has come along way. I have raised 3 outstanding human beings, recently became the wife of a police officer and I manage a small business in one of the most affluent communities in the east valley.

I love what I do for the simple fact that I can change the way a woman feels. Think about that…. what can be more powerful than that? The ability to change the way a human being feels.It’ss epic!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a business owner is never smooth. My biggest struggle is that I have a creative brain. Nothing about me is logistic and numbers driven. Therefore, accounting and administrative business responsibilities have been my biggest struggle.

Increasing business is always something I work on. How can I attract more clients? I have spent thousands of dollars on advertising which has not worked That is my biggest frustration.

Cosmiix Artistry provides mobile beauty services in makeup and hairstyling. From natural looks to complete glam. Whatever look you want to achieve, I will deliver, If its makeup and hair styling you need, I can come to you! I style woman who are guests in hotels throughout the East Valley.

In the studio, Cosmiix Artistry provides the most precise and beautiful permanent makeup and lash extensions for convenient and effortless beauty. I am experienced in film, print, special effects, music videos, commercials and bridal.

I am proud of my brand. I have made a name for myself that people in the film industry recognize. I am proud of my reputation.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Skill and talent is obviously important. However, attitude and personality is the face of your business. For me, it’s important to build a rapport with clients. Always with a smile!
