Today we’d like to introduce you to Dancin’ Stone.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Hello, my name is Bryce Beasley. I grew up in North Carolina and moved out to Arizona in 2012. While growing up in North Carolina my cousin visiting from Germany showed me the art of freestyling. He explained how it was something fun to do while at a party with friends etc. I was very intrigued by this and began freestyling not only with my friends at party’s but in my private time as well. Those freestyles soon became written lyrics that were incorporated into songs. The songs started out just as imitations of what I heard had been already done but through the years I began to develop my own style. My Father died unexpectedly in 2010 and my lyrics became more emotionally driven to serve as a support system during my time of grief. Diving into myself and examining my own mind, nature, life, and reality.
I was reborn into the realm of Conscious Hip-Hop.
Fast forward to moving to Arizona, my brother in Law tragically died of stage 4 colon cancer at 36. My mom and I uprooted from North Carolina and moved out to Arizona to be with the rest of my family. From there, the growth became almost exponential. Speaking of growth I have always loved cannabis. I feel it has been a been a monumental part of my journey. I got my medical marijuana card in Arizona and was authorized to cultivate in 2013 and I began growing 12 plants in a tent in my closet.
I cared for the plants everyday watered, made sure humidity and temperature levels were good and kept a clean environment. One day the plants developed a deficiency and started turning yellow at the tips. I took a picture of the plants and went to the nearest hydro shop in Cottonwood, AZ.
This is where I met Ian Pedersen CEO of Source CBD. At the time he was consulting for the Cannabis Industry and managing the hydro shop in Cottonwood, AZ. I showed him the picture of my plants and he easily pointed out it was a calcium magnesium deficiency and gave me the antidote. I then looked over to notice a set of turntables in the shop. I asked if he was a DJ and he explained he had been working in the industry for 15 years. Throwing shows and filming other artists through his video platform Ourverse. I told him I was a conscious Hip-Hop artist and I could tell he was skeptical seeing as everybody raps nowadays. I then showed him a remix I did to “Mathematics” by Mos Def
now Yasiin Bey. And that was a game changer, he was very impressed. We became great friends and started booking shows in the Cottonwood and Phoenix areas. Headliners included 2mex, Abstract Rude, Brad B and various other artists. He introduced me to DJ Foundation producer of the insects and Drunken Immortals and I ended up recording my first EP in his studio in Phoenix. At the time I was going by the alias “Reflection” and Ian said he had a name and concept that he had been developing through the years and thought it might fit in with my conscious style. The name was Modest Ra, The name was Modest Ra, I was intrigued by the concept and very flattered by the offer. So I respectfully adopted the name Modest Ra. Along the same time, I started working at the Hilton in VOC (Village of Oak Creek). This is where I met Paul Renken, multi-instrumentalist, producer and one of the best guitar players I know. When he found out I was into Conscious Hip-Hop he invited me over to his studio and we wrote a song together that same day. The song is on my first EP it’s called “Beautiful”.
Fast fast fast forward… Paul and I turned Modest Ra into a band. Arena rock and roll psychedelic Hip-Hop music. We collaborated with Jesse Fullbright multi-instrumentalist and producer and also Dj Provisions. We performed at multiple events in 2018. Opened up for Joyner Lucas at the Monarch Theater including the 5th annual Arizona Hip-Hop Festival and the Hempfest in the VOC. After all this your probably wondering how I got the name Dancin’ Stone. Well, I went to the beach with a friend in Carlsbad after the Joyner Lucas show last year. I kept seeing these stones getting pulled into the ocean by the tide and it seemed like they were dancing. I found myself looking for the most colorful unique dancing stones I could find to take them back for myself and my bandmates. I was also listening to a lot of Alan Watts at the time, his segment about how we grew out of the rock on this planet. With all the pieces woven together, this is how Dancin’ Stone was conceived. This year 2019 has been all about growth and development for as artists. Taking vocal lessons, writing new songs, exercising regularly, doing Tai-Chi Chuan. We also started a podcast called Modest Humanity. Taping into the limitless potential that has become dormant in most of society. Further awakening our minds so we can wake up and encourage others to grow and do what they are passionate about.
Please tell us about your art.
Spreading enlightenment and awareness is the goal. We make Conscious Psychedelic Hip-Hop Rock.
I hope people develop a strong sense of self and break away with the knowledge that they are creators of this universe not victims.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
Being unique and original and being respected for what they do.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
