Meet Dana Weston and Jacquline Norris of The Milk Spot in Central Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Weston and Jacquline Norris.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a recent transplant from Fort Worth, Texas. My husband and I moved to Arizona for the purpose of being close to family and to start a new job. I was employed in Fort Worth. Texas in a Holistic Dental Office that performed tongue tie revisions as well as dental procedures. In that office I worked as both a Dental. Hygienist and a lactation consultant. Last year, I attended a national conference for the United States Lactation Consultants Association held in Scottsdale. While networking at the convention, I met my future coworker, Jacquline Norris. Jacquline had been working at The Milk Spot for a number of years as a Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and had previously worked as a Birth Assistant. Jacquline and I exchanged information and later, I contacted The Milk Spot about a position. It is because of Jacquline that I was invited to interview and later hired as a Lactation Consultant at the Milk Spot. The Milk Spot located next to Blossom Birth center has given me the opportunity to pursue my passion of helping mothers achieve their goals of successfully feeding their children in whatever form it may take. This is a very rewarding career.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My path has been relatively smooth since earning the credentials necessary to qualify for the position. The paths open to Lactation Consultants are varied. They include private practice, hospitals. Public health, dental offices, and physicians offices. I felt confident that eventually I would find my way in a new city/state.

The Milk Spot – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Milk Spot is a safe private place that families are invited to become a part of. Mothers, fathers, caregivers, and partners are offered birthing classes, breastfeeding classes, massage care, chiropractic care and mommy support groups. The Milk Spot offers specialized lactation visits designed to troubleshoot and make the breastfeeding experience smoother. Even experienced mothers visit us when an unforeseen roadblock occurs. Since my background included extensive study in oral anatomy and years of experience with tongue tie revisions, I feel confident that I have an eye for spotting possible tongue tie or oral anatomy issues. When suspected, Jacquline and I as Lactation Consultants will refer the parents to providers who can diagnose. At the Milk Spot we are in a unique position to help families. We are located right across the street from the Phoenix Children’s Hospital. We work in concert with providers all across the valley to help families. We offer a specialized area of focus; that of giving ample time to fine tune feeding issues in infants.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I feel that any city, town, or community is a good place for a business like The Milk Spot. Anywhere there are families trying to feed their infants in the healthiest way possible is a good place for a business like this one.
