Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Stout.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Art for me has been a revolving door of different creative outlets. My first venture into art was music. I bought an acoustic guitar, learned how to play, wrote some songs, formed a band and played some music. It was a great time.
The second round of creativity was visual art. I was living in NYC and started creating things from a blank white space, or saw something in a photo and wanted to make it into something different. Some people liked it and I was fortunate enough to show some of my creations at a gallery in Brooklyn. I dabbled in animation for a minute as well, created some cartoons and my alter ego Box your Buddy. I have a weird side for sure, and this is when I was doing a lot of live streaming with my good friend Monkey and Sasha the Fish.
Currently, my creative energy is focused on gardening and woodworking. They kind of go hand in hand for me. I see a plant and I want to make a home for it out of wood, so that is what I do.
I always have quite a few creative ideas circling around in my head and crashing into each other. I’m just waiting for one of them to make the most noise and come to life.
Please tell us about your art.
To me, art is just creativity. I make whatever my mind says to make. I create because I have to. My inspiration is to just get it out of me. I don’t have other people in mind when I am making something. If anyone happens to like it, that is a bonus. Mostly I just want others to come up with their own story when they see my work, whatever it is. What does it remind you of? What do you see in it? Does it take you somewhere else? I think that is more important than knowing why I did it. I don’t want my meaning of the art to influence what you will see in it. I created the art, but it is your job to swim around in it.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
A lot of it is under my bed or on a file somewhere on my computer. The best place to see my work is on Instagram. The best place to see my true personality is on Twitter.
The best way to support me is to follow me on my Instagram and send me a message letting me know what you would like to see from me or saying, “I would love to buy that”.
