Today we’d like to introduce you to Dallas Freeman.
Dallas, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My journey in photography started my junior year of high school in Maryland. Different areas of art always piqued my interest, especially with my father being an artist. I had wanted to go into interior design, then fashion design and would take the classes that would apply. Photography is the one that actually stuck with me and felt like I can actually excel in it. Soon enough, I was in the photography club and my interest had become stronger. I began looking into the Art Institute my senior year and decided to attend the Orange County campus. The more I learned, the more my passion grew. I was able to graduate with my bachelors in the fall of 2018. Right now, I am freelancing and currently building my business while working more on personal projects, and collaborating.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Has it been smooth? Definitely not! What was supposed to be a two-year degree had turned into six years. Always keeping myself encouraged and remembering why I began in the first place. Comparing myself to others has definitely been a challenge. I would see other people at a point in their careers, who started along with me but excelling further.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Dallas Freeman Photography – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I am a digital photographer. My niche varies from portraiture to fashion. I love bringing concepts to life with fashion but evoking emotion with portraiture. I am most proud of keeping true to myself. Having belief in my subjects and their capabilities. Most of my photos aren’t going for the usual model but using friends and family. Almost a sense of empowerment for not only them but for myself.
Any predictions for the industry over the next few years?
I see myself continuing to grow as a photographer and my work progress into something greater. The last five years have shown amazing progress from when I first started, so I can’t imagine what the next 5-10 years will reveal for me! I’d really like to work for a magazine! I feel like I’m being pulled in that direction. Magazines like Essence or Ebony, which are different than usual responses. Usual answers such as vogue or vanity fair are nice, but I don’t have as much connection with them.
