Today we’d like to introduce you to Daisy Herrera.
Daisy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Hmm… I got into photography because I grew up with very little photography. I have very few pictures from my childhood in the Philippines. I don’t know what I looked like as a baby, or as a 3-year-old! This made me want to take photos of everything I want to remember. As soon as I figured out how to work a camera, I’ve been clicking away! I love freezing that moment in time and remembering it forever with a photograph!
I got the itch to venture off from being a hobby photographer to actually starting a business in 2016. It’s been a lot of blood, sweat, and tears (and bottomless coffee) to get to where I am today, and I’m not even close to where I want to be. I started my business photographing families, events, and products. I saw how much fun the wedding togs were having, so I eventually set my focus on couples and weddings. I took tons of classes, workshops, webinars, assisting other photographers, and second shooting to learn everything about weddings!
I also invested in the International Academy of Wedding Photographers, and that has helped me tremendously in getting my business on the right foot. I’ve had many sleepless nights working on my website, training my eyes to see the correct white balance, and editing boogers off kids’ noses LOL! But it’s the best feeling in the world when your business baby that you birthed from the ground up starts to grow and finally start getting inquiries!
Has it been a smooth road?
No! Nothing smooth about starting your own business. The biggest struggle is trying to go full time. I’m still working my Monday-Friday job as a nurse, then doing weddings or photo shoots on the weekends IS hard! I need 20 more hours in the week haha! The other struggle is finding my own voice in this ocean of photographers in the area. I’m still working on that.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Navyflower Photography LLC – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My company is Navyflower Photography LLC. I am the owner/photographer, and I run it along with my husband Wes. We specialize in genuine, enduring, and emotional documentary-style wedding, engagement, and family photography. We want to give our clients memories (not just photos) that will have them laughing, crying, and everything-in-between as they relive their special day.
My photography style is natural with vibrant colors that will be timeless. I have to say due to my nursing background, I love to take care of my clients from the initial meeting until the delivery of products and beyond. I want my clients to have the highest quality heirloom products (ie. albums and prints) to preserve their memories.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that Phoenix has great locations for photography! I love the desert and mountain sceneries for a photography backdrop. I don’t like the summer heat in Phoenix, and neither do brides! I need to start booking destination weddings to get away from the 115+ degree weather, then all would be good!
