Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynthia Chadwick.

Cynthia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I was younger I would help my dad record videos for his car club at the time so he could turn those into lowrider movies and sell them in order to raise funds for the club. I always thought documenting events like that was fun so naturally, I wanted a camera of my own so I could do the same thing but the closest I ever really got to that was my Nintendo DS.

With my DS, I only really took pictures and played around with the stickers and other editing features on the DS that were available at the time but I think that’s where my love for photography began. After the DS it moved to a Nintendo DSI and in high school when I got my first smartphone, it moved to that.

Since starting with that phone I’ve had several more and as my phone’s evolved and got better, so did my photography skills. Recently within the past year or so, I’ve gotten into editing my pictures and playing around with color settings. Within a short time I’ve started editing, I’ve noticed that my editing skills are maturing and getting better as well.

Has it been a smooth road?
For the most part, my photography journey has been pretty smooth. I think my only real struggle so far is confronting people and asking them to pose for me.

I feel more comfortable with photographing plants, animals, and inanimate objects but I’m still struggling with trying to photograph people more.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
My work isn’t really well-known yet but if I were well known, I think I’d be known mostly for nature shots and pet photography. The thing about my work that I’m most proud of is how far I’ve come.

When I first started, you could tell that my pictures were taken with a cell phone but now I get people asking me which camera I use for my pictures and they’re shocked when I tell them that I use my phone to take these pictures. I think what sets me apart from others is how my pictures come about.

Most other photographers go out and seek beautiful places to take pictures but every one of my pictures has a personal memory behind it and has been taken on a whim while I’m out doing things with friends or family. Also, I don’t just put random quotes like others do, both the quotes and pictures that I post are relative to how I feel as well.

One last thing that I believe sets me apart is that I keep pictures (from when I first started posting photography stuff) on my account to show where I started in comparison to where I am currently whereas I’ve noticed that other accounts don’t show their beginning pictures and often remove very early pictures like that.

Any predictions for the industry over the next few years?
I don’t know what exactly the industry is like now, but personally, I think that the photography industry will grow. The subject matter might change a little bit because nowadays everyone seems to be taking pictures whether it’s of food, makeup, cute little diners that they’ve found along their travels, etc.

Whatever can be photographed is currently being photographed by younger generations, and while most of their subjects aren’t new, the youth are finding different and creative ways to make things they’re own from the way they get ready to take a picture to how they edit it.
