Meet Courtney Jorgenson of Courtney Elaine Photography in Coolidge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Jorgenson.

Courtney, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When I was younger I had a little red film camera that I took everywhere. I loved being outdoors and in nature so I would take pictures of everything. I found my happiness through photography. I kept at it for years and eventually got a DSLR. The new camera helped with my love and passion for photography. I started photographing people and learned that I not only loved photographing nature but I loved doing portraits as well. I soon realized that my love for photography was so strong that I wanted to turn it into a career. I started my photography business while I was still in high school. I did shoots whenever I had free time. After high school, I went to Northern Arizona University where I am finishing up my final year. In May of 2020, I will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Photography. As of right now I am shooting and booking sessions whenever my schedule allows. My business is slowly growing and I am learning new things every day about running a small freelance business. With the help of my professors, friends, family and boyfriend I can book sessions and focus on school. I have such an amazing amount of support and would not be where I am today without it.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been the smoothest road along my journey as a photographer. I struggle with severe social anxiety so meeting new people is always hard for me. Sometimes I am at a loss for words and so scared that I will say the wrong thing or embarrass myself. Although I have found ways to cope with my anxiety, it will always be there and will always be something I struggle with.

Tell us more about the business.
I run a small freelance business called Courtney Elaine Photography. I specialize in nature photography and portraits. I am known for my creative touch on every shoot I do. I often have people throwing the craziest ideas at me and waiting for my creativity to turn it into a unique photograph. As a small business, I am most proud of how I have been able to focus on school and still keep my business growing.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the next five to ten years I see my business growing rapidly. After graduation, I have all the time in the world to focus 100% on my business and career. I will be a full time freelance photographer, hopefully spending most of my time shooting.
