Meet Claudia Rubio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Claudia Rubio.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Thank You. It’s my philosophy that life is a beautiful path that can surprise us in many ways. After all, we all came with just one purpose, and that is ‘to master lessons by playing the roles needed to succeed.’ I have played several roles, but one magically led me to another. I am in my 40’s now and still anticipating more magic to come!

I am a Colombian actor, photographer, teacher and the most amazing of all, a healer.

Since I was a little girl I wanted to become an actress. When the time was right, I traveled to the capital and visited one of my uncle’s best friends who happened to be a Television Director. I was hoping that, by auditioning for him, I would get some feedback and direction on where to start. I had never taken classes before and I was moved by my passion for acting and my dream. Once I auditioned, the director (my uncle’s friend), told me I should look into another career because he did not see any talent coming from my performance. I was devastated and cried like never before. I was there, at the town of theater, television and soap operas; I had to do something! While riding the bus back to the place I was staying during my visit, I saw an acting academy through the window. I got off the bus and before me was “The Academia Charlot.” This was the most well- known acting academy not only in town, but in the entire Country! I was interviewed by its director, Jaime Botero Gomez, one of the most important actors and directors in Colombia, and who later became an icon after his death.

The interview went great and I got accepted. I was asked to bring my payment the following Monday, however there was no way I could tell a family of engineers that I was going to become an actress, so I had to figure out a way to afford the training. I started by making my grandma’s carrot cake recipe, selling it at school cafeterias, hoping to make enough money to pay for my tuition, which I never did. A few weeks later, my father found out and graciously sent me the money for the first and second semesters. By my 3rd semester I had earned a scholarship due to my student performance.

During my 3rd semester, I got a role in a national TV commercial audition. The commercial became very famous as it was a government campaign encouraging Colombian Peace. After that commercial, I began getting many calls to audition for different projects, launching my career as a professional actor in Colombia.

A few years later, at one of the awards ceremonies for actors, I saw my uncle’s friend, the director who told me I should look into another career. He came to me, embraced me with a warm hug and congratulated me for having followed my dream.

My acting awards include a Nomination for Best Actress at Gerard Higgison Awards in 2007, Best Acting at Almost Famous Film Festival in 2007, 2008 and 2009, and Best Actress in a 48-hour film project in 2008.

Fourteen years later, there was an economical repression in Colombia of which tremendously affected the entertainment business. The two largest TV companies, who also owned Coca-Cola and Pepsi, started purchasing small production companies until it became an imperium of only two television stations. The money was not good and they began replacing professional actors with aspiring models, and at a considerably lower price. The quality of our television suffered greatly and I decided it was time for me to move on.

I came to United States with the Hollywood Dream, but once here I happened to re-connect with my school sweetheart and love of my life and a decision had to be made. He said he would support my dream, however I also wanted a family and to play the role of a wife and mother. Hollywood had to wait!

Once married I had to find something; a way to express my art and allowed me to be around people. That’s when I launched my second passion, photography.

I’ve received Photography Awards for my work, Soul Cleansing Under The Rain – Best Artist Award, Tempe Artist Guilt 2010, and Phoenix Bird, MCC Artist of Promise 2014.

I did portraits, babies and weddings for a while but, once I filed for my divorce years later, photography wasn’t enough for me to support my kids and myself. Photography can be stressful and I didn’t want that for me or my children. I then decided to combine my talents and passion for both acting and photography and began a progressive photo booth business, Hollywood Style Photobooths. It’s been six years and it has been an amazing blessing and a very stable income with very little stress.

It’s been a long journey since I first came to the United States, however all of the ups and downs have led me to wake up spiritually. I started my path in meditation six years ago and it has totally changed my perspective of life, who I am and what my dreams truly are. Magically a new purpose knocked on my door, a path in the healing arts!

I recently became certified as Bio-Magnetic Pair Therapist and currently working on my Bio-Energy Certification. It has lead me to a partnership with the soon to be opened Sozo Healing House in Tempe Arizona. A center whose mission is to provide the tools needed to heal the wholeness, mind, body, and soul. Sozo is opening on July 2nd, 2019.

I started this wonderful holistic venture at first with one thing in mind: to help heal my brother. He has a very rare brain tumor that significantly grows every year creating pressure in some of the nerves causing him loose some physical movements over time. He has had five surgeries on the past ten years and the doctors said he won’t be able to handle one more surgery. I started looking for alternatives and found biomagnetism to be the most promising. While doing the research, I became ill with a very bad kidney infection. It was then when I decided to give this therapy a try “on myself.” I could not believe how quickly the infection went away after only a few sessions!

A large number of illnesses, including cancer and many other complex diseases, are associated with fundamental alterations in the pH level in the internal organs and with the presence of viruses, bacteria, fungus, parasites, toxins, and other harmful factors.

After discovering that changing the body’s pH level to neutral with the use of magnetic fields, the body has the ability to perfectly heal itself. Many patients had been healed from cancer and other debilitating illnesses and diseases, and I was healed from a terrible kidney infection, so I firmly believe my brother’s brain tumor will be healed as well. Even though my main purpose on this path was my brother’s recovery, I began witnessing many amazing healings. I believe the more people I assist in healing, the closer I am getting to see my brother’s healing as well.

Please tell us about your art.
I paused my photography in 2010 when I was having one of the most difficult times of my life. During that time I decided to take my first self-portrait, Soul Cleansing Under the Rain. This self-portrait was featured at a number of exhibitions in Arizona and ended up receiving The Tempe Artist Guild’s Best Artist Award in 2010. I believe every artist has a story to tell and I believe self-portraits are a great way to express one of the most important stages of one’s life.

After this self-portrait came a time to lift my chin up and become prepared to resist whatever was next to surface in my life. That’s when my next self-portrait was born, Phoenix Bird. This one was exhibited at Mesa Community Colleges and the Orpheum Theater, selected and given The Artist of Promise award in 2014.

A few years later I completed my third self-portrait, “Let Go”- a re-birth of which I found enjoyable, continuing on my self-portrait and self-discovery journey.

I have continued working as an actor in Arizona, doing theater, television commercials, voice-overs and most every assignment my acting agency sends me.

Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
Yes, and that is, when someone tells you that you are not capable of something, remember not to take it personal! We are all mirrors of one another; one cannot recognize what is not within. If they observe any form of “failure” when they see you, it is not that you are a failure, it is just what the other person needs to see, or the only thing they can see. They are being reflected in you! This simply mean the “failure” is likely theirs, not yours. As an artist, even if you are told you are a “failure” (or simply sometimes feel like it), then use it to your benefit. Take the best of each situation, assemble and build from the ashes and rise as The Phoenix Bird!

I wish I had learned meditation long time ago as being centered and in the moment is a wonderful place to create and the best (and only) place to be.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
My photography work is no longer exhibited outside of my home in Gilbert, Arizona. Every time I take a self-portrait, I submit it for competition and, when accepted or chosen, it is then exhibited.

One step always takes you to the next. I have always loved people and I have always loved to perform. A life of many ups and downs had taken me on a beautiful spiritual path, now finding myself passionately active in the healing arts more so than photography or acting. I still do TV commercials and voice-overs in Arizona however my focus has changed over the last few years, now specializing in Biomagnetism and Bioenergy.

People can support my work by visiting Sozo Healing House, opening in July, 2019 at 51 W Elliot Road, Suite105, in Tempe Arizona.
