Today we’d like to introduce you to Claudia Lovato.
Claudia, before we jump into specific questions about the company, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
How I got my start, I began public speaking at a very young age. As the youngest of a large family of seven, the only way to be heard was through effective communication. My Dad once said “Kid, you have a big mouth and you never stop talking. If you can find a way to get paid for talking, you’ll be in pretty good shape.” He was being funny but had no idea how that statement would shape my future. He was the most powerful speaker I have ever met and his level of influence on me rivaled that of the likes of the “Tony Robbins’s” of the world. He was a leader in the labor industry. A teamster that often participated and lead pickets/movements for change and was also a mentor to many young men.
When I came across people who worked for him, their eyes would light up and then they would go into how much they admired my dad. How much he helped them strive to be their very best. This was the type of person I wanted to be. Before I started hearing how my dad had influenced people, he was just my dad. How he spoke to me was just how he spoke. Looking back, he made every word count. He had such a way of stringing thoughts together. The funny part was that he was not a talker. He just happened to put a lot of thought into what he wanted to say and his words were impactful.
At a young age, I got into dentistry and fell in love with the profession. Not long into it, I saw so many areas of frustration and inefficiencies. I started writing down solutions. I began speaking up during staff meetings and unofficially became the spokesperson for my co-workers who would say “You should speak for us. You have a way with words.” It didn’t take long before I transitioned out of the dental clinic into speaking and consulting. But it all started with writing and getting my papers into the right hands. This was before Facebook and social media so that was very difficult to do and was a very slow process.
I started speaking at study clubs and doing in-office team building workshops and eventually got invited to speak at large conferences. If I could credit any specific efforts or tasks that helped me get into speaking, it would be building relationships and serving others. Once I got involved in social media networking, I did not immediately promote myself and my business. I connected. I listened to their needs. I observed others. If I could fill a need, I offered. If I knew someone else who could fill the need, I made the connection. I eventually created my business pages and began promoting them. I invited my entire network over to follow my business pages. Some went. Most did not. This was perplexing. I asked a social media expert what I could do to remedy this “problem”. She told me they would not go. They prefer following my page and have a more personal connection to me.
What I had done was organically connect with like minded people in my industry and build authentic relationships. Many of those friends were influencers, podcasters, and board members for their state associations. If they had a need I could fill I offered, but often, they came to me. This did not work. This was just a path I chose while learning about social media. It also comes naturally to me to serve. I am currently an educator, speaker, consultant, and the owner and founder of an organization that helps speakers and consultants advance their careers.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. The road to entrepreneurship never is. There have been many twists, turns, pivots, and tears. Morado Allied Speakers & Consultants was one of the pivots. My other company is Morado Dental Academy. It is an online continuing education platform. The excitement I had for online education when I launched lessened over time. When that happens, the hustle it takes to drive sales isn’t there. My passion for interacting with people face to face is what fills my cup. So I launched MoradoASC in 2017 and it has been an awesome ride! Now that things have settled, I will revisit my online platform and re-launch. Entrepreneurship is always exciting. It never stops and I love it!
Tell us about your company. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?
When I created Morado Allied Speakers & Consultants, I wanted to create a learning environment that allowed people to feel comfortable, included, and not be distracted with the vibes that are present at typical conferences. At our live training events, we don’t tolerate elitists. It’s not allowed. Everyone there is on the same level, ready to learn as well as contribute. And we have a ton of fun! I am known for my openness, welcoming personality and spirit to serve others.
I am most proud of the growth of our members and the amazing ripple effect we have created. Our members had stories to tell and services to put out in the world to make it better. Many of our members are out there training people to perform life saving oral cancer screenings, raising awareness for causes like human trafficking, abuse, women’s rights, the list goes on and on. I am pretty proud of MoradoASC but I am in awe of our members and what they are doing.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is when my members succeed. Helping people help people has given me such a sense of purpose. When I see my members winning, that’s where it’s at for me! When I see them out there being change agents for long term care for the elderly and oral cancer that’s a success.
