Meet Christian Lopez of 8th in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christian Lopez.

Christian, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Before photography took over my life, I was dedicated to the music I had no musical background couldn’t play any instrument, but I had a passion for the sound of Dance music. At the age of 15 and still in High school, I dreamt big of becoming a great EDM producer. If there is something I’ll always cherish about all this was going home after a long day of school to get on a slow Toshiba laptop. Making beats on FL Studio while I did my homework and uploading everything to Soundcloud for my friends to listen to the next day at school.

During that time, I spent three years under the wing of an incredible influence, role model and amazing promo team called HADES who helped me achieve so much. Did all I could to perfect my music. It wasn’t until I turned 16 that my audience grew when my first remix was released to the public. The song I remixed was “Sun & Moon” By Above & Beyond. The impact of posting this remix is something I’ll never be able to express in any way shape or form.

Unfortunately, after High school, the music came to stop, and I felt like I wanted to pursue something else. I spent a year trying to decide what I wanted to so I bought a random camera from a stranger not knowing anything about it. Packed my stuff and bought a Ticket to attend EDC 2014. This is where my vision for photography began and knew this was something id enjoy doing. Capturing the beauty of every person and making memories for them to always remember is something I live for.

Fast forward to now, and photography has become much more than I ever expected. I have been given a platform to express my feelings through mysterious and moody street photography. But also helped me dis[play my roots and where I grew up through my Pin Up Photography, Lowrider Photos, etc. Nothing in the world could stop me from taking photos for the world to see. Its an artist thing that we all live by.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No road is smooth when you are trying to accomplish so many things. My road has been bumpy from the start. No one wants to believe in a kid who has so much he wants to accomplish and make his hometown happy throughout my years of doing this, Music & Photography thing.

Its been a struggle I’ve suffered from depression and anxiety, and that’s been my biggest challenge till this day. Its taken a big chunk of my life away. Its stopped me multiple times from achieving everything I’ve ever desired, and it made me give up on the things I truly love.

I’ve lost amazing friends and opportunities because of these challenges. But like they always say “No matter how hard or bumpy the road gets, you just gotta keep moving forward.”

So, as you know, we’re impressed with 8th – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I’m known for my adrenaline junky photography, sitting on edges of buildings, and my love for remaining mysterious to the public hiding my face behind a mask. I also can’t forget the colorful smoke bombs that are used as props for my photoshoots.

That definitely is what sets me apart from everyone in AZ the use of fashion to influence my street photography and everything I do.

What’s your outlook for the industry in our city?
Of course, Arizona is a very underrated state at the moment, especially in the photography community. But id recommend anyone to come out here give a try and see the true talent Arizona has to provide. This state has so many opportunities for the young artist to rise up and take control of their careers.
