Meet Chris & Christian Parker of Detail BOSS in North Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris & Christian Parker.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We’ve always loved cars. It has been instilled in us as kids when our dad had several corvettes and sports cars throughout both our childhood in Pennsylvania where we grew up. We helped him change tires, do other modifications such as new exhausts, changing headers, and of course helping him detail the family cars. Back then we didn’t have the tools, products or advanced procedures as we have today; but I think this is what initially laid our foundation and helped the light bulb click “on” years down the road.

We both graduated high school and attended Penn State for a couple semesters, being accepted into the radiological technician program. To make a long story short, this isn’t what we wanted to really do, however we always thought that if we wanted to make anything of ourselves, we had to have a college degree to do so. Come 2008, our immediate family made the move to Arizona to start a new life in a brand new climate. In 2010, we were in the RN program studying for our finals in Pennsylvania at a Dunkin Donuts, just before Christmas. We were attending a community college near Nanticoke, PA. Both my brother and myself knew that this still wasn’t the path that in our hearts we knew we wanted to pursue.

Out of nowhere, Christian suggested “hey, why don’t we start a detailing business?” I stopped, looked at him and laughed, and chuckled saying, “Yeah, I don’t see why we couldn’t?” We closed our textbooks and flipped our notebooks over to a new loose-leaf, and began brainstorming. We did our due diligence, researching ideas, coming up with a name, how we wanted to start the business to have low-overhead and grow into a shop, etc.

We opened Detail BOSS in early 2011, strictly out of our mobile truck, located in Lake Havasu City, AZ. After a year, we relocated the business to Scottsdale AZ in 2012. The rest is history. Through hard work, perseverance, and word of mouth, Detail BOSS is recognized as the leading auto detailing company in Arizona, and looked up to very highly in the Detailing Industry.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
One of the main struggles I’d say is coming to the realization as a brand new business owner, coming from a world where you had a job you just had to show up to, do your work, and receive a paycheck, was no longer a reality. You have to live and breathe your business 24/7 to get it off the ground. You have to know how and when to take a pay, when not to, and when to invest back into the business to grow. Starting off, we both sold our vehicles and bought a cheap beater to share for the first 2.5 years of being open. This put money in our savings to live off of until we could begin taking pay from the business.

Another milestone was making the transition from being mobile with very low-overhead, to a fixed location where overhead was a major variable that could make or break a business if finances aren’t managed and monitored properly.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
The core of our business is building relationships with our customers. We feel that having a connection and trust is everything in this business. We provide high quality automotive detailing services, from exterior washes for existing customers, to deep cleaning interiors with European steaming methods. We are known for our advanced paint correction and coating services. Paint correction is the process of using a machine to remove imperfections in a vehicle’s paint finish with various pads, compounds, and polishes. If not done properly, this process could lead to hazy paint, or even burning the paint if not careful.

Ceramic coatings are also one of our main services. Rather than waxing your vehicle every week or month, having a ceramic coating provides more protection, with a fraction of the upkeep. Adding a high gloss and super slick finish, a coating can last anywhere from 6 months up to 5+ years depending which package suits our clients’ needs. After a simple wash, a coated vehicle bounces back to the same luster as when it was first coated.

We also offer window tint, Suntek and XPEL paint protection film (clear bra), and vinyl wraps with 3M or Avery materials.

We’re proud of the fact that all these years we’ve kept it just my brother and myself. This ensures quality is maintained and accountability. We will likely expand with a few employees in the near future, but they will be for more basic services.

We are also very proud of the accomplishments and opportunities we’ve been extremely blessed to be a part of, such as: being members of the Detail Mafia, detailing for NASCAR, Indy Car, 6-time members of the Air Force One Detail Team, detailing dozens of classic cars for the famed Barrett Jackson Auto Auction, we’re members of the International Detailing Association, we’re members of the Official Gordon McCall Detail Team with P&S Detail Products. We’re certified by FLEX Polishers, SONAX Detail Products, have won the two detailing competitions we attended. We’re Ceramic Pro certified installers and are the flagship store for Scottsdale. We were also the first in Arizona to offer Ceramic Pro. We’ve cared for hypercars such as the Porsche 918, McLaren p1, Koenigsegg Agera and Regera, other exotics from Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Maserati. The list goes on. We’re just proud and thankful for the blessing of being business owners and waking up every day doing something for which we’re passionate. It doesn’t feel like a job.

I think what sets us apart from others is our continued education, certifications, and skill level. Most clients that come to us are surprised how much we’ve accomplished and how we aren’t about upselling, but rather fitting their needs into a particular package that suits their budget and desires.

What were you like growing up?
We were both close to our family. We were into cars as teens. Modding them, stereos, the usual. We grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania where there really wasn’t much to do. Christian was and is more outgoing than myself. I am more quiet, but over the years I have also become more outgoing. We’re both people persons. We’re also into fitness and weight lifting! This is probably our biggest passion next to cars.
