Meet Chris Busone of Captain Cooks Food

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Busone.

Hi Chris, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I have been cooking since I was in my single digits. So the older I got, the more I enjoyed it. The more I wanted to challenge myself with dishes. The more I started pulling inspiration from things I was seeing and flavors I wanted to experience.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been relatively smooth compared to others! I made the choice to ease my way into the food world instead of starting off in a kitchen. Or leaving my job and going full throttle with a side business to make it thrive as soon as I could.

That gave me the opportunity to carefully and gradually experience the food world and the people in it.

The main struggle has been not allowing myself to be intimidated by those who are better than me, but rather working with them to make me a better cook. When you’re cooking with someone who’s an expert in an area you’re possibly sh*tty at, it forces you to step up. It’s also a learning experience. As mature as that sounds, it’s much harder to force yourself to think like that.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Captain Cooks Food?
Captain Cooks Food is a food brand specializing in spice. What I’m really known for is my hot sauce!!! A tropical coffee habanero sauce that’s the perfect balance of sweet heat. Recently, I’ve started producing habanero glass candy.

Shards of Amber glass that’s made of mainly sugar, infused with habaneros. It’s SO fun to eat.

I never know how to answer the whole “what sets you apart”. I guess it would be that I am relentlessly trying to find new delivery systems for spice into people’s lives that have only had a basic experience.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I do cross-brand promotions constantly. Collaboration projects and sauces and products, I have a podcast I bring businesses on so they can promote. I go live on Instagram and interview people. Literally so many ways!
