Today we’d like to introduce you to Chenoa Hill.
Hi Chenoa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
First off, let me say, that I’m grateful you all chose to interview me and hear my story again! Fast forward to 2022, I have expanded my growing brand, The Walu Child. In the last interview, I shared my journey as an intuitive healer, getting into the spiritualist business.
Which is very much a prevalent part of my life. My love for fashion has encouraged me to dive back into designing. I’ve picked up my zeal for jewelry designing once again, through designing body jewelry, sunglasses, earrings, etc.
My journey of design started about 9 years ago when trying to get away from the call center scene (laughs). It began with me sketching clothes and fashion looks. Life happens and I eventually took a hiatus due to the lack of drive to create.
Last year, I picked up my passion again and added a new edition to my design ideas. The latest extension of my brand, Durag Maa. The creative idea for Durag Maa derived from my love of the beloved Hindu goddess, Durga.
Durag Maa isn’t just a fashion statement, as we’ve seen on the street to the runways and the red carpet.
It is a spiritual movement as well! My vision is to shift away from the streetwear stereotype of the durag and those who wear them into something chic and to protect your crown’s energy, globally.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The greatest challenge in the journey for me is PATIENCE! The pressure to have a booming business with success and notoriety overnight, I suppose.
It has tempted me to grow impatient and compare myself to others. The reality is that everyone’s journey is unique and incomparable to one another. And so I’ve reminded myself often, that I can’t compare how fast or how slow the growth of my brand is developing.
My time will come, in its divine time.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My jewelry is very colorful, Hindu and West African inspired. The ultimate description of my pieces would be summed up into an acronym, EEE. Eclectic, exotic, and eccentric!
You’ll see me use the Evil Eye totem often in my pieces, raw cut gemstones that I handpick, cowrie shells, and at times my favorite animal, the elephant! Absolutely, every piece I create has a meaning and divine purpose.
I create a wide range of pieces. However, my most popular pieces would be body jewelry, sunglasses, and nose jewelry. I love to play with color and gold. You can never go wrong with gold. In my opinion, universally it looks gorgeous on any complexion!
Trends are considered, though I prefer to create things that I see in my mind’s eye and what inspires. No matter how “weird” and challenging the design. If I can see it in my mind’s eye, I am going to create it! My pieces are all customized designed.
My demographic mainly caters to women! It’s my mission to adorn the inner goddess within my clients. Body adornment is one of the many key elements of self-love for a goddess and to show her regality.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
This year, I am dedicated to the rise of the divine feminine collective, essentially women and young ladies. I have started a YouTube channel dedicated to healing and encouraging women and young women to follow their divine paths.
You’ll see tarot readings, and coaching sessions available. The assignment was placed in my heart years back, to help the female collective. My journey hasn’t always been easy, as I’m still finding my way. Therefore, I can empathize with the plight of a woman seeking purpose outside of society’s restrictions and expectations.
We have all been birthed with a purpose assigned to our lives. My mission is to help the female collective seek out their purpose, to encourage them through the process in order to cultivate their God-given purposes and discover their gifts.
This is not a feminist movement, this is a rise for all of us as men and women to come together as a greater force. The YouTube channel: Queen Esther Tarot. I can be booked for jewelry styling, Tarot readings/events, healing sessions, and coaching sessions.
Be sure to support the movement!
