Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Sheridan.
Hi Chelsea, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always been obsessed with style and fashion, and upon getting a job at 16 in retail really leaned into my personal style and learning more about wardrobing through my job. When social media (Instagram in particular) became super popular around 2013-2014 I decided to start sharing things I had found and loved, how to wear items, and collaborating with brands both large and small as a way of simply reaching friends and family who were always asking where I purchased items and how to wear things, etc. I briefly had a blog that was titled Pretty Pink & Proper in 2015-2016 as a nod to my then southern living and influences as I moved away from my hometown in Cleveland, Oxford, Mississippi to attend graduate school at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi. I decided to pivot in direction and re-brand to Chelsea Sheridan, and am currently in the process of rebuilding and branding my personal blog that I hope to get out into the World Wide Web soon!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think being a blogger or content creator in today’s world can be extremely challenging. You constantly have to ebb and flow with the new trends of social media and reaching people on the platforms that they are using. What worked for growth and engagement in 2015 is a thing of the past and so many get caught up in the algorithm – when in reality you have to continue to move and shake with what is current. It hasn’t been easy for me to grow continuously – and oftentimes, if we are being real – it can be super defeating. But you take a break, give yourself creative room to breathe and reflect, and start again. I do this often as a way to remove the comparison game from my creativity and allow myself to detox from the pressure of what everyone else may be doing. There’s power in staying true to who you are and allowing yourself whatever means necessary to continue to be that creative version of yourself.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a lifestyle, fashion, style, and travel blogger. My friends describe me as a mix between David Rose (Schitt’s Creek), Lorelai Gilmore (Gilmore Girls), and Phyllis Neffler (Troop Beverly Hills). I try to bring my quick wit to my platform and business as well as just offering real-life tidbits along with midsize fashion and travel! I am also currently in the process of starting my own shop, which will be curated with my picks of classic and trendy pieces for the everyday millennial woman.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Honestly, all of my childhood growing up in Cleveland, Ohio. I never knew what wonderful culture and upbringing I had until I left. I was surrounded by my loving family and close friends and neighbors. I grew up with Italian neighbors until I was about 8, who were immigrants from Siciliy, and being Italian myself I never realized how growing up in such a unique environment shaped who I have become. My neighbors watched us after school and we would come home to full charcuterie, prosciutto, pasta, the works as an afternoon snack – which beats the typical 2nd grader’s Fruit Roll-Up.
Outside of culture and family, my parents would take my sister and me to Siesta Key, Florida every October. It became a second home that we looked forward to going to year after year. Outside of that trip my parents raised us with a heavy emphasis on travel and took us out of school (to our teacher’s dismay) 2-3 times yearly to experience new places in and outside of the country. They instilled the travel bug in me and I am beyond grateful for the trips and memories I have in my mind and heart. My father passed nearly 6 years ago from Cancer, and these memories are some of the most valuable things I have and hold from all of the wonderful times we spent together.
