Meet Chelsea Peter of Eat It in Cave Creek

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Peter.

Chelsea, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always had a sweet tooth and really enjoyed creating things that people loved. So, it just made sense to combine the two. I started doing cakes and other desserts for parties and events that friends and coworkers were throwing. That allowed me the chance to be creative and expand on what I could do. Now I work for clients on a referral basis, providing them with customized desserts based on their needs.

Has it been a smooth road?
I think with anything new, there are definitely struggles along the way. I try to look at every struggle as a learning moment. I’ve had a lot of those moments. Understanding your strengths and weaknesses helps with that. Knowing when to walk away, take a breath, and come back to it with a different perspective is something that I try to do. Loving what you do doesn’t necessarily mean that it isn’t hard work. It simply means that you work harder at it. It also means that you put a lot of pressure on yourself. I think that’s definitely something that I struggle with.

Please tell us about your business.
Eat It is a custom baked goods business. It’s a little bit of everything. Cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and a few specialty items. The biggest crowd pleaser and fan favorite would have to be the shot glasses. People go crazy for them and I do a huge variety of them. I do everything from peppermint glasses filled with chocolate mousse to graham cracker glasses filled with cheesecake. It’s definitely one of my favorite things to make. It’s not something you can find just anywhere.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I’m sure a lot of people would disagree with me on this, but I actually love the way this city changes with the constant growth and influx of people moving here. It opens the door for variety and change and that’s exciting to me. Everything has a history, a story, a culture, an entire life behind it. I love experiencing that. I love seeing what’s coming, what’s new, what’s going to influence the next big thing.

I can’t really complain about anything. I mean, I guess I wouldn’t live here if I didn’t love it.
