Meet Chelsea Litchfield of Abstract Hair Artistry in Avondale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Litchfield.

Chelsea, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started in the hair industry because I love art and the creative process and who doesn’t love getting their hair done! It was a way for me to be creative every day and work with people (which I LOVE). Early on, before I graduated from beauty school, I was drawn to mastering my craft and fell in love with learning and pushing myself through continued education. That was 14 years ago and I STILL find it vital to constantly be learning. In 2010, my family moved from Idaho to Phoenix. It was shortly after moving, I realized a long time goal of becoming an educator for Paul Mitchell and almost simultaneously opened up my own studio. It is my sanctuary and home away from home where I get to do what I love with amazing people every day! You might find me in my studio working away, traveling from city to city educating, on a stage somewhere (I’ve gone as far as Italy!) or working on a photo shoot. Whatever comes my way, I’m game and love it!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been an adventure that is FOR SURE! I’ve found the hardest thing for me was building my clientele. I’ve done it 3 times. Phoenix was especially tricky because I left a full clientele and moved to a place I didn’t know a soul. It is possible and hard work ALWAYS pays off!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Abstract Hair Artistry story. Tell us more about the business.
Abstract is all about making hair dreams come true. I’m very well rounded and do anything from haircuts to special occasion hair although I would definitely say my heartbeat is color. I’m most proud of my happy guests and the trust they place in me. What sets me apart is I believe that stagnancy kills, I will always strive to learn and grow and better serve my valued clientele!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I tell people all the time that my career is MORE THAN a dream come true. I didn’t even dream this up for myself! Being a YES person and giving it my very best at everything I do has definitely helped but some days I just feel like I won the lottery. A few career highs have been being hired to work in Italy, having the opportunity to train other educators, working on photo shoots, working backstage at hairshows, making the cover of American Salon, and this summer, I was a featured artist at Paul Mitchells biggest show of the year The Gathering!
