Today we’d like to introduce you to Chad Weed.
Chad, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am Chad Weed of Chad J Weed Photography, a fine art portrait and fashion photography studio located in Mesa. I specialize in dark, moody, studio images that focus on the emotions of the subject. I love deep dark shadows and the pockets of light that dances across my subject, highlighting the moment. I opened my small studio about five years ago and have since expanded from traditional beauty portraits to my now signature look for fine art portraits and fashion. With inspiration from the old-world painting masters, combined with modern fashion influences, I have developed a unique style and feel to the images I create which I hope you enjoy.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I believe the art community in general suffers from self-doubt and I am certainly no exception. I am always plagued with that little voice in the back of my head telling me that I’m not good enough. Strangely, that fear is also a motivator for me. Quitting would prove that little voice right. But if I can push through it and create something better than the day before then perhaps, I can do the same tomorrow and the day after that. But it never goes away and I hope I continue to prove that little voice wrong.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am proud to have a progressive portrait studio that is inspired by the old painting masters, along with modern fashion and portrait styles. My team has worked hard to develop the unique style that we have become known for moody with a ton of emotion, a painterly feel with a modern fashion sense. I am also proud of the fact that whether we are doing a maternity photo shoot that is capturing a life changing time in someone’s life, or a fine art portrait that may ultimately become a family heirloom, or a high fashion concept shoot for the cover of a magazine, we always want to create something better than the client ever imagined and better than anything we have created prior.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I believe luck is a combination of hard work, preparation and persistence. Random chance is a real thing, but it shouldn’t ever be a business or life strategy.
