Today we’d like to introduce you to Catherine Kimsey.
Catherine, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Kansas and earned my degree from the University of Kansas, specifically from the William Allen White School of Journalism. My aspirations of a successful career in advertising was what led me on a my journey to Phoenix.
After graduation, I packed up my Ford Mustang convertible and drove to Arizona for my first job at a predominant business publication in downtown Phoenix. Over the next 12 years, I continued to advance my career in advertising, still living in the Valley, but working on a national scale. I also got married, bought a house in Arcadia and filled it with a few dogs!
In October of 2018, I left the corporate world to pursue my dream of starting a marketing agency. In addition, my husband and I have several other business ventures. Our household is busy!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The definition of entrepreneurship is ‘challenges’, right?! All kidding aside, yes, starting three businesses at the same time has an inherent set of obstacles and challenges. The highs are the highest you’ve ever experienced in your career and the lows will take your breath away.
But that’s what makes the dance worth the effort. The sense of accomplishment when you see your vision working in real time, it’s something I feel blessed to have the opportunity to experience.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about ToyBox Marketing and Management – what should we know?
I founded and am the CEO of ToyBox Marketing and Management. ToyBox is a global kid influencer marketing and management agency, dedicated to working with the world’s top brands and content creators.
My mission to build ToyBox was inspired by the changing media landscape and the emerging power of kid influencer marketing.
I recognized a kid influencer marketing void within the traditional space, due to a lack of dedicated focus on this finite sector of the industry. With the reduction in shelf space for toys in retail stores and the decreased engagement with traditional marketing, I knew it would only become increasingly more difficult to reach Generation Alpha which in turn would elevate the need for kid influencers.
ToyBox is designed to help brands scale and execute holistic kid influencer marketing campaigns, from customized strategy development to influencer sourcing, to executing against established KPIs and reporting on analytics that have a distinct value to our brand partners.
Because we meticulously cultivate our kid influencer relationships, we offer a solution which our partners can trust will be placed in a brand safe environment and in front of an audience they wouldn’t otherwise reach.
When you look back, what are you most proud of?
The day I had the courage to resign from a job I loved and a career I worked so hard to earn in order to chase my own entrepreneurial dreams.
