Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassidy Lujan.
Hi Cassidy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
The Plant Mill is a co-op shop that was founded to help local Arizona plant businesses showcase all things plants! We started as a social club of house plant lovers, and with our experience in business and passion to grow the Arizona plant economy, our new shop, The Plant Mill, was born. In addition to showcasing plant-related goods from local makers, we offer educational and experience classes to small groups like “House Plant Basics” & “Soil 101”.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Since our founding in 2019, we have launched over 20 products, and through fairs, markets, and customer feedback… we’ve learned a lot about what people in the Valley want & need to be good plant parents in the desert. It’s been most valuable to test things out before we committed to larger product lines like our Plant Food, which has sold out of every batch since the 1st in 2020.
As you know, we’re big fans of The Plant Mill. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
We are a co-op-style plant shop selling plants and related goods from local Arizona growers and makers. In addition, we offer plant care services, and will even revive struggling plants back to health. Being so close to ASU means our students get the extra TLC of bringing plants in for babysitting over breaks and holidays.
With sustainability at the top of our list, we offer our own line of plant care goods (by Casa Plant Club) in an apothecary style bottles and offer refills in-store for our fertilizer and leaf cleaner.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
I think that a strong business is built around both the good and the bad luck. I’ve had business ideas stolen from me and ideas that flopped, but the key is to keep moving forward. Even when I’ve had things go well, you just ride that wave and know that it’s both ups and downs.
