Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassandra Morfin.
Can you briefly walk us through your story? How you started and got where you are now.
Honestly I think I have always been lost. There’s a saying “Don’t be fooled by my success idk what I’m doing, all I do is pray and let God handle the rest” so far it’s working. I give all my life and success to God. I’ve always considered myself the black sheep of my family, since I was a little girl I knew I was different. My mind didn’t work like my siblings, tias, tios, etc. “Do this and that” and “get a 9 to 5”. I never listened not because I was rebellious but because I knew my purpose was different. I didn’t come into the modeling industry till 2016 when a group of friends decided to throw me on a runway because they were short a model. Forgetting my anxiety, I was surprisingly GREAT at it. After that show I remember receiving messages from brands asking me to shoot in their clothing and I loved it. From there my career as a model has grown in ways I would have never thought of. I quickly knew this was the path I wanted to take in my life. My passion for the fashion/ model industry grew. In 2018 I was published and I promise I cried. Being a model isn’t easy and add being short and a darker skinned Mexican American woman.
Has it been a smooth road?
JEEEEZ no! Specially with my height. When I shoot with a group of models I’m always the shortest, don’t get me wrong I love my height. Just wish it wasn’t such a problem for the industry. I think that’s when loving yourself as you are plays a huge roll. I’ve been at photo shoots where the director says “Cass tippy toe for me” so I do.. and then “ok everyone kneel down to Cassie’s height” and we all laugh. You have to love yourself/body/mind and soul and everyone else will either love you for that and others unfortunately will dislike you for it. But when you commit yourself to your passion there’s nothing else to do but to keep pushing. I can definitely say I didn’t always have as much support as I do now. But you have to be your biggest fan and others will later follow. With every project I do I move with a sense of urgency, MY ENTIRE career is a emergency for me. People will try and knock you down but you can’t allow that. I’ve had people laugh and even a sister literally laugh. But as I watch my career flourish before me I know I’m on the correct path. Just imagine if I were to sit and listen to the negative comments or people who try telling me I should live a simpler life. I wouldn’t be who Iam or have the success I have now. Siempre digo “antes muerta que sencilla”
We’d love to learn more about your work! What do you do? Specialize in? What sets you apart from others? What are you most proud of?
I’m a Model, I specialize in print but would never stop showing up at castings and showing off my walk to break height requirements. I’m making a break through for short/petite models.
Im also TruthinX Models coordinator. TruthinX has expanded to places like New York, Houston and also France. I hate to limit myself to one profession. There are numerous days where I have my own shoot/fashion show and right after I get to coordinate other models. I love both, I pray to God he keeps me being able to do both careers as they each flourish in their own ways.
I’d have to say one of the things I’m proud of is being able to balance life as a mother and life as a model. I have a special bond with my daughter and have brought her to shoot with me. Its important for her to see what I do and show her “work” doesn’t always have to take time away from us spending time together. Shes such a supporter always yelling “wow mami you look cute”
I’m proud of every big and small step I’ve taken in my career from doing street wear in the beginning of my career to being published to the projects I’m working on now.
What’s sets me apart from other models would definitely be my personality and ability to own every look. Throw me in a boudoir shot.. I GOT IT. You want a futuristic Barbie? I got you lol.. I’m also a very loving person. I want to spread love and being a model and getting to meet hundreds of people makes it easy for me to do that. With every conversation I have with anyone I try my best to leave them feeling more hopeful and loved.
How do I define success?
“Success is the progressive realization of a worthy goal or idea”
