Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie Moric.
Carrie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Throughout my teaching career of 17 years, I have found the ability to impact my students’ lives extremely fulfilling. After becoming a mother with my first, I knew that one day I wanted to stay home with my children. When I became pregnant with my second, we were financially strained and my husband had just taken on a new job. Not only that but being pregnant and knowing that I had no Maternity Leave, I needed something quickly to help relieve the strain of the what If. I then remembered being pursued from a mutual friend about a business opportunity that could provide some breathing room. As I watched my business partner grow her business, I saw the true potential of how her business changed her family’s life, and she felt inspired to teach others how they could achieve their goals as well. At that point, I was hooked. I wanted more freedom, more time, and a second income to help ease the burden we were financially having.
I started Rodan and Fields in January of 2017 immediately when we found out we were pregnant. Last year I was able to walk away from my career and take on a new role. This past summer, I also have poured my heart into tutoring privately for past students. The ability to tutor 6 hours a week, and to be able to work from anywhere, on my phone, computer, iPad, in the car to and from pick-up has given me the ability to continue to work my Rodan and Fields business.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road, this business is challenging. Some months are better than others but when you see the potential and the paychecks that come in monthly, you realize that you cannot give up.
We recently just had a miscarriage in early September after my son’s 2nd birthday. Talk about struggling! Trying to show up for my team, working through the emotional part of losing a baby, has been very hard. The loss is hard, and yet I have been able to work through this difficult time. When you are part of a bunch of women who have the same goals, and intentions, they rally around you and lift you up. This community has taught me so many things that have helped me get over some of my personal obstacles. For example, even though I am known as an outgoing woman, I am not overly comfortable approaching strangers or getting on the phone to talk about my business. I have noticed how this opportunity has helped me connect with others in smaller groups and overcome my reservations about public speaking. It has also given me the confidence to get on the phone or to have conversations with people I would never speak to.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Rodan and Fields – what should we know?
I am an independent consultant for Rodan + Fields which is the #1 skincare brand in North America. Rodan and Fields was founded by Stanford-trained Dermatologists Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields with a passion for giving people the best skin of their lives — and the confidence that comes with it.
Since 2008, the company has grown its innovative line of products and expanded into Canada, Australia, and will be expanding into Japan in 2020.
Our company sets us apart from others because our company is investing significantly in ways to cultivate growth in the global skincare category, including developing product innovations, creating more digital tools for R+F Consultants and reaching untapped audiences in new markets.
I think as a company, and as a teacher, I am most proud of our foundation, Prescription for Change.
We as a company partner with nonprofit organizations to provide young people with educational and life skills training. To date, we have given more than $10M in grants, reaching 1.3 million youth.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My business has taught me to be more courageous, and, most importantly, it’s empowered me to believe in myself and my abilities to be successful at anything I set my mind to.
