Meet Caroline Walsh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caroline Walsh.

Hi Caroline, we’d love for you to introduce yourself.
I have always been creative, but my love for art and ability to make it started at the peak of Covid. I was lucky enough to keep my full-time job. However- I was living alone in a studio apartment. Unable to socialize, I turned to art to de-stress and keep busy! I have always been in love with the ocean. I grew up near the water on Long Island, and most of my free time is spent at the beach. It only made sense for me to try to make wave resin art, as it matched the rest of my home aesthetic. I made a sign for my front door, posted it on Instagram, and my messages blew up with my friends and family who wanted a piece of their own. You might be wondering where the name Keepers Keepsakes came from. The Keepsakes part is pretty simple. Making things around what people cherish will always be so important to me. The Keeper part stemmed from being a zoo keeper. For over ten years, I worked with the most amazing exotic animals, which is why many of my pieces also involve tributes to animals.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t. Art, in general, is complex. The art medium I use is costly and very difficult to learn. I have wanted to give up often. Sometimes pieces don’t turn out the way I thought they would, and sometimes things don’t sell the way you thought they would. What I struggle with the most is time. I pour 100% into everything I do. It isn’t easy to manage my business, work full time, and just have time for myself/ life.

Please tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others.
I am most known for making art pieces that highlight animals. I woodwork and cut out shapes, and then epoxy over them. Before I was an artist, I worked at an aquarium and a zoo. I currently train Guide Dogs for visually impaired people, which I am very proud of. I think it’s my calling in life, and both that and my art are incredibly fulfilling.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting?
Starting a business ( or anything in life) takes a lot of practice. Most business owners start producing their products, handling shipping, handling sales, budgeting, and making content for their business. It isn’t easy to manage it all, but sometimes you just have to go for it! Owning your own business is so challenging but so worth it.
