Today we’d like to introduce you to Carly Gilleland.
Carly, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up in the Arcadia area here in Phoenix and attended Arcadia High School, which actually has an incredible media communications program. So at the age of 15 I was producing feature stories and submitting my work in to national student competitions. From then, I knew video production would be my career. It’s my passion.
I continued my studies at Santa Barbara City College, then transferred to CSU Long Beach to get my Bachelor’s Degree in Film and Media Studies with a minor in Marketing and Journalism. Throughout my years in college, I would reach out to local businesses and friends to produce videos. I did a lot of freelance work.
After graduating in December 2011, I moved home to Arizona and welcomed my daughter. Being a single mother was tough at first, but gave me extra motivation to build a business doing something that I loved and allowed a flexible schedule for me to be a mom, too. I knew there was demand for video. I saw the trends on social media moving towards more video and less still images. I heard people from all areas of work (fitness, real estate, retail, etc.) asking for video production. So the video production business planning began…
At first, I worked as a one (wo) man show. Business came all from word of mouth, and one project led to the next. After the summer of 2016, my head was spinning and I knew that I was ready to take the next step and build a team. Que the new business plan….
My business name was always “Carly G. Media” but now that I was at the point of wanting to grow, I knew I needed to take my name out. The Good Vibe Media came to my head in a heartbeat. I wanted to build a video production business that produced videos for people, businesses, events, etc. showcasing their “good vibes”. Producers make movies and films to engage emotion – it’s an incredible thing! I visioned our vimeo page being a hub of beautiful video content featuring real people, events, charities, businesses, products… over a year later I’m proud to say that vision is alive.
Today, I have a team of 4 videographers that help me produce content for The Good Vibe Media. We take pride in producing professional, high quality videos for weddings, events and brand/marketing. Being in front of the camera isn’t natural to many people, so we always strive to bring our good vibes to each project and capture moments in an organic, documentary style way. We thrive off of people’s passion and love telling others stories.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
So far the only rocky part has been trying to keep up with the large pile of work on our plate – which I am insanely grateful for. It’s the best problem to have. I feel like if you love what you do, it shows in your work and to your clients. That has probably been a big part of the success and growth of my business.
As far as struggles… time management? I seem to always be trying to work on that. If you have some pointers, I’ll gladly take them. Ha!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Good Vibe Media – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The Good Vibe Media is a video production company that specializes is weddings, events and brand/marketing videos. Our foundation is documentary style film making – meaning we mainly shoot on location, in an organic “real” setting. Weddings and events are awesome for us, because we capture all the moments as they happen and edit together a rad video from it all.
We love to capture moments as they happen and tell real stories. Recently there is more of a shift in this style in production for marketing and brand purposes. People want to connect with brands and companies, and producing a video helps make that connection.
What sets us apart from others is that we are crazy passionate about our craft and love people and their stories to we really connect with all of our clients. We are also mainly a female based team. The film and video production industry is a lot of males… we are proud to be able to bring a new perspective in to video production.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I would love to continue to grow the team and expand our work. No big changes in the near future though.
