Meet Carlotta Montanari

Hi Carlotta, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story. 
Four Legs On Set started little over 4 years ago, a journey that is an incredible love story, and as every love story, it starts with passion, and in this case, a lot of dedication and sacrifices as well. Four Legs On Set started with the purpose of giving neglected horses a chance to shine and afford to care of their needs. When everything started, I had no idea we would get where we are today. Being able to combine the entertainment and my life passion with the horses it was definitely a gift from God. I’ve been in entertainment for 26 years now, in front and behind the cameras, and I had a special connection with horses since very little child. It hit me while modeling for a national commercial on a horse, I realize I had the best day of my life more than all those other filming days when I was next to big names of the movie business, but that day with horses, it was probably one of the best days onsets I’ve ever had!

So, I decided to combine my creativity and knowledge of for the film industry, and my passion for horses, and my love and connection with them altogether, and before I knew we had the pleasure to work with incredible names, such as Chanel, Kardashians, many Magazines, and various Music artists and actors. I am very selective of the roles I accept my horses or the horses I represent to do; I do not allow anything that could be any harmful physically or even psychologically for horses, they always come first, and that is not negotiable.It is all about fun and art! Definitely one of the satisfactions of my company is to be able to give work to other people too because Four Legs On Set is me and my horses, but also me as horse trainer and representer of other horses for the media, and I feel blessed to have the trust of the horse owners I work with, and of course, built a beautiful friendship as well! Through my work as expression of art, I open a window of my world to others and connection with these divine animals. Through horses there is a deep healing process and a deep listening process that we can only learn when we are open to that, it’s something more than just beauty and glamour! They are the mirror of our emotions, and they always make it right for me.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think nothing big, or very little, comes without sacrifices and difficulties, although we have been pretty lucky because doing a professional journey like this is an expensive place like Southern California isn’t always easy, but we have been doing fine overall. Horses have incredible maintenance needs, such as quality feed, medical routines, chiropractors, handwork, etc. And especially rescues they come with baggages that if you are a responsible owner, you can’t ignore and must do all possible to give them the best quality life ever. And the most important part is that before anything, before any business, and before deciding to share my horses with the world, they are my pets first, they are my family first, and I am very protective of them.  And the joy and deep bond of my relationship with animals also comes with some pain; for example, just like people, pets get old, and we are never ready to lose them, and that is a scar I can hardly recover from, so I consider it a big inevitable emotional obstacle; it is that time that I think of obstacles because it is out of my control and power.We just have to be grateful and feel blessed for every chance we get to love these majestic animals and take every day as precious as it is to be in their presence.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do about your journey?
Born and raised in the little Rimini in Italy, studied arts and dramatic arts and journalism, started working in the entertainment since after graduating, moved to Hollywood in my late twenties, learned English, and made it in the Actor’s Studio and competing for acting roles with the best actors in the world, a girl with a luggage full of dreams and nothing to stop her indomitable will! I had a beautiful and strong journey, and Hollywood is Hollywood. But if someone would have told me I would ended up working in the Entertainment with my best soulmates’ horses one day, I would smile saying “No way!” And if someone would have told me that in my “Peter Pan” lifestyle I would also find the love of my life who is also a horseman on the side, and become a mother of the cutest boy ever, I would have almost not belive that, becasue my dedication to my horses is a full time deal! But the quote “God has bigger plans that the ones you have for yourself” it is actually real, and I am the most humbly grateful woman and business owner on this planet.

And the way horses have been creating with me unforgettable moments is something that makes my heart burst of gratitude.

And also, two find out along the way that through our work a lot of other people and horse lovers get inspired, and of course, they get to know horses like they never did before!

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
I would like to say that we can control those two!!! I am a woman of God, and I try to talk less about luck and destiny but more about faith and consequences of choices we make or can’t make. So far, I can say we have been very lucky, and I think that the positivity and the creativity I hear as feedback that the knowledge in my field does make a difference from a regular horse trainer or wrangler. So maybe some luck to have chosen a line of business early in life that ended up marry perfectly my biggest form of expression later in life, and I can’t wait to see what it will be next! Thank you.
