Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Elizondo.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My idea came about while I was in school to become an automotive technician. I started noticing a gap between the customer and the shop. The only thing bridging that gap was a tow truck. Over time, you could tell that the majority of tows were because of a bad battery, flat tire, or some ridiculous repair that could’ve saved a lot of time to the consumer. I began planning roughly 5 years ago. Many people have echoed similar ideas, but my plan is evolving to more than home visits. The idea of coming to the rescue should you become stranded on the side of the road is the next step in the world of automotive maintenance and repair. Keeping things simple, if the repair can be done, which saves you time and money, more so time, since our lives are constantly bombarded with what life can throw, keeping you going is key, and that’s what we aim to do
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Each vehicle presents its own unique challenge. I find that a special tool or angled wrench is needed for a certain vehicle, so improvisation has to be utilized. Repairs don’t always go as planned. A simple water pump replacement on an older model Ford Ranger, which should have been no more than a couple of hours turned into 3 times the length of time since the O-ring holding it in place became pinched and would not allow the pump to come out. Other vehicles have presented repairs needed beyond the scope of what I’m willing to do, simply because of the danger presented, or the lack of clearance to the ground, which is substantially different if the vehicle were on an actual lift, so a shop is recommended or they take it to their preferred shop
Please tell us about Exodus East.
The name Exodus East is meant as a catchy term. Referring to Moses of the bible, freeing the Israelites from the bondage of slavery, our goal is to free vehicle owners from the bondage of cost and time constraints that come with an unexpected break down. Currently, our window is small, limiting us to weekends, but our goal is to expand to 7 days a week because a vehicle doesn’t take rest from needing care
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I simply would have taken the chance to do my venture much sooner. I’ve let the doubt cause me to wait a fair amount of time, but this New Year is the year I take that leap of faith and go for it
