Today we’d like to introduce you to C. Renee Mangum, TaVonna Symphony and Emma Sheree.
C, TaVonna and Emma, before we jump into specific questions about the company, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We never intended to start a business. It started as just a book we wanted to write. We often get comments about how great our friendship seemed to be, so we wanted to share some of the codes we live by, to have what we have. We are three women who connected in our adult life and built a solid trio. We decided to write a book about building and maintaining healthy female friendships in your adult life.
Our book got such positive feedback and we recognized a need in the women empowerment space, specifically for what we care so much about — friendship. We sat down and developed our company concept and plan, and The Bestie Code L.P. was born.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has NOT been a smooth road for us by any means. We’ve had to struggle with balancing family, relationships, work, etc. It can be challenging starting a business out of your own pockets when you also have families to care for and bills to pay. When you already have a lot on your plate, it can be difficult to also stay consistent. We’ve also had bumps in the road in terms of our friendship, but that comes with the territory of just being friends. It can add extra stress when you’re now business partners as well. But we’ve weathered the storms and continue to build a strong brand.
Tell us about your company. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?
Our company is called The Bestie Code L.P. We are a women empowerment company that focuses on creating a culture of genuine, healthy, long lasting friendships among adult women. Women always want to be besties but seem to have difficulty developing new friendships that are worth their time and effort as adults. We lead these women by example and give them fun and engaging opportunities to build friendships with others who have the same interest in mutually beneficial friendship.
Our book is the real introduction to us and what we’re about. From there, we have our social media pages on Instagram and Facebook (The Bestie Babe Cave Facebook group). We also host our own fun ladies’ brunches to provide opportunities for women to connect in person. We also have a game show called The Bestie Test that we do live at other events.
We also intend to be a resource for women who want to become authorities in the media, such as aspiring authors, podcasters and more. Our goal is to use our platform to launch and propel other women into success under their media platforms as well. In 2o2o, we’ll also be hosting our first community literacy event, providing books to women and children of all ages, encouraging our community to read more and become authors themselves.
Our business is authentic and organic since it was developed out of our actual lives. There are a few things that we are quite proud of. We are most proud of the fact that we have remained true to who we are as individuals and as friends throughout the creation and development of our platform. We are also extremely proud of the fact that the community of women we’ve built (called the Bestie Babes) are positive women who love the idea of real friendship and extend themselves to developing new relationships with other Bestie Babes.
We are also very proud of our book, The Bestie Code, for becoming an Amazon bestseller organically. No games or gimmicks landed us on that list. Just real engagement with women who believe in what we believe in.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
If luck had anything to do with us, it’s simply that we were lucky to find each other. Two of us connected in Detroit, Michigan, but we lost contact. We ended up regaining contact in Arizona and then met the other through happenstance in Arizona, even though she is from St. Louis, Missouri. We are grateful that fate would have us connected because we had no idea just how much we would need each other. Other than our connection, everything is hard work and commitment to success and friendship.
