Today we’d like to introduce you to Bushra Aryan.
Bushra, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My background is in higher education. In my years prior to living in Phoenix, I mainly worked with students, both at the American Psychological Association and the University of Denver. When I moved to Phoenix, I continued working in higher education – helping doctoral students with their dissertations and navigating their programs while entering the job market. I had no plans to start a business out here but when does life go as planned? A good friend of mine in Phoenix is a successful entrepreneur and one day at lunch while I was giving her some life/work advice she said I don’t know why you don’t do this for a living? You’re so good at it? I remember thinking, I am good at this and it’s what I’ve loved most over all the years of working with students…and the seed was planted. Over the next few weeks, I worked with her to develop a business model, website, and all the other not-so-fun things that go into starting a business!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Has it been a smooth road? Of course not! My professional journey in a new city has been difficult. I think it is primarily because I was so well connected back home in Denver that it was almost a safety net of sorts. I had no connections when I moved to Phoenix and my greatest challenge was just that. Over the years, as I built a network of great friends and colleagues, things looked brighter. But as Paulo Coelho says, straight roads do not make skillful drivers. So, after much driving, here I am, a skilled driver who didn’t end up where she thought she’d be but rather where she should be.
Please tell us about Queen Bee Life Maven.
Simply put, I am a life coach that empowers women to become their own change agents. In other words, start living their best lives. I think that all women have the power within themselves to change their personal and professional lives, sometimes we aren’t growing because we don’t have the right support. I believe that having a coach, ally, and personal cheerleader can be life-changing (no pun intended). What I do is provide a space that promotes balance, self-care, accountability, and guidance with the freedom to choose the path that’s best for you. I predominantly work with women who are looking to continue their education, change careers, or make personal life changes. Although I have been known to agree to help with a few personal makeovers and wedding planning too! What sets me apart is that I have been an advocate for women’s rights in every arena I have worked in. I believe in lifting other women up. I believe in a shared collective of success. I guess you can say I am a feminist (it’s my second favorite F word)!
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The sunsets in Phoenix are truly breathtaking and each day the sky is a different color! I love taking photos of the palm trees against the gorgeous pink, lavender, and orange sky! The shopping is pretty awesome too. I always tell visitors to show up with an empty suitcase.
I do not like the weather here – hence, my bitmoji photo. This is no secret to anyone that knows me! I am also pretty vocal about it on my Instagram page haha. I prefer cold weather for sure!
