Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryan and Allison Payne.
Bryan and Allison, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always had a heart for construction and ideally, that will lead to resorts one day. But in the beginning, I earned a construction management degree and spent a few years in the project management role helping with school buildings, industrial plants, food manufacturing, etc. until the company I was at sold. It turned out to be a blessing as I had the opportunity to be free of a “job” and start pursuing my goal. Of course, had I planned that out a little better it would have felt less like jumping off of a cliff. But I gathered up a few friends and we started flipping houses. We did about five in a year, and about 12 total before we realized we weren’t great at it. We wound our way into buying and selling vacant land and have stuck with that niche ever since! We found that land is the foundation for every person’s dream. You can’t have a horse show without dirt you can’t start up a fast-food franchise without dirt you can’t build a yoga studio without dirt or live in total peace and quiet in the middle of nowhere without dirt! Of course throughout this process I have gained the “entrepreneur bug” and have joined in with my bride in her Young Living business as the oils bless our lives tremendously, I also project manage equipment installs for the in-laws beef jerky business, build single family homes for re-sale, run our Airbnb, co-pastor our church, help raise our three kids, and did I mention my wife and I just became certified Buti Yoga instructors.
Has it been a smooth road?
Business ownership is never a smooth road, but if you are open to never stop learning, then you can change any situation into a breakthrough. Some of my major struggles have been with my partners honestly. But rather than blaming others for difficulties, you have to realize they are people too. We all have strengths and weaknesses, it’s why we are in this together! Another major struggle is financing. To be transparent running your own business takes a toll on the family. I couldn’t be more thankful for my amazing wife as she has sat down with me and we’ve gone over our daily schedules, budgets, about every three months. As that’s how often things change! Of course, working around kids nap schedules, as we both work from home, the benefit is that we do get to spend time with the kids. It truly makes it feel like the whole family is rooting for this success.
Tell us about your business. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?
We are in the land business! There is much less competition because there are way fewer people that realize the benefits of this niche. I excel at selling properties and lining up financing for my buyers that may not be able to afford it all at once. We don’t have to do credit checks as my lenders are private investors that fund the purchase of properties for the buyers. So not only do we provide wholesale prices on land throughout Arizona, but we continually pair up investors with buyers to create lots of happy people. Our core focus as a team/company is to build relationships with the land sellers and buyers, as we meet so many amazing people. Often they aren’t in the best of situations, but our heart is to genuinely help them out by getting them quick cash in exchange for their property. We do that by lining up the buyers and investors to make it a win-win-win situation. We also are all apart of a local church that is more of a family than just a meeting place. We are always looking for ways to truly bless people and the community.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Love the network of people here in the valley, as well as the extensive places to eat. My wife and I are foodies and there are no end of new finds. (Our favorite is Cibo in Downtown Phoenix it is set in an old renovated house with outdoor seating, fairy lights, live music, incredible wine and the best Neapolitan pizza) We live in Waddell, AZ and have no problem driving all over the valley to meet friends and enjoy great food.
What I like least about the city is that there seems to be an unwillingness from people to actually engage in events they “have always wanted to try” or meetings they sign up for but then don’t show up to… There is so much to be learned and gained from getting outside of your “norm”. I’d encourage everyone to really engage in their current relationships but also find new ones and just love on people, try new things…. basically show up!!
