Today we’d like to introduce you to Bruce Battoe.
Hi Bruce, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My journey into videography is deeply rooted in my experiences in the 1990s in Kyoto, Japan, where I studied computer graphics and spirituality. This unique blend of technology and spirituality has shaped my approach to video production.
In Kyoto, I was immersed in the rich tapestry of Japanese culture, which is deeply intertwined with Shinto, the indigenous faith of the Japanese people. Shinto emphasizes harmony with nature and the appreciation of its beauty. This philosophy resonated with me and found its way into my work as a videographer. I strive to capture the natural beauty in every frame, mirroring the Shinto belief of finding divinity in all aspects of life.
My study of computer graphics in Kyoto provided me with a solid foundation in video technology. I learned to appreciate the intricate details that go into creating visually stunning graphics. This technical knowledge, combined with my understanding of Shinto aesthetics, has allowed me to create videos that are not only visually appealing but also deeply meaningful.
Living in the Redwood Forest on the north coast of California for seven years also was a transformative experience for me. The towering redwoods, the serene environment, and the close-knit community provided a unique backdrop for my work as a videographer.
During this time, I produced local TV commercials, adhering to the principles of integrity, value for clients, and an inspirational message in balance with nature. These tenets were not just business strategies; they were a reflection of my personal philosophy, shaped by my experiences in Japan and my life amidst the redwoods. Integrity was at the core of my work. I believe in honest communication and transparency with my clients. Every commercial I produced was a collaborative effort, ensuring that the client’s vision was accurately represented.
Value for clients was another crucial aspect. I strived to provide high-quality videos that effectively conveyed the client’s message and resonated with the target audience. I understood that every commercial was an investment for my clients, and I aimed to deliver a product that offered substantial returns.
The most distinctive element of my work was the incorporation of an inspirational message in balance with nature. Living among the redwoods, I was constantly reminded of the beauty and power of nature. I sought to infuse this appreciation into my commercials, creating content that not only promoted a product or service but also inspired viewers and fostered a sense of harmony with the natural world.
My seven years in the Redwood Forest were more than just a chapter in my life; they were a significant influence on my approach to videography. Even now, as I continue my work in Phoenix, Arizona, the lessons I learned in the forest remain with me, guiding my philosophy of video production. My videos are more than just a sequence of images; they are a reflection of my client’s stories, presented in a way that is in harmony with their essence.
In every project, whether it’s a wedding, an event, or an advertisement, I aim to present my clients in their best light, bringing out their heartfelt messages. This approach is deeply influenced by my experiences in Kyoto. Just as Shinto teaches us to see the divine in everything, I strive to reveal the extraordinary in the ordinary, touching the lives of viewers one video at a time.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Growing a video production business is no small feat. I’ve faced numerous challenges along the way, but I’ve always found a way to surmount them. Building a business network was one of the first challenges I faced. I started attending local business events, joined online forums, and actively reached out to potential clients.
Over time, I built a strong network that has been instrumental in growing my business. The video production industry is constantly evolving, with new technologies emerging regularly. To stay competitive, I’ve made it a priority to keep up with these changes. I invest time in learning about the latest video technology and constantly upgrade my equipment.
Providing value for my clients has always been at the forefront of my business strategy. I work closely with each client to understand their vision and deliver a product that not only meets but exceeds their expectations. I believe that this commitment to value is what has allowed me to retain a majority of my clients year after year.
Retaining clients long-term is the highest honor. I believe in building strong relationships with my clients, understanding their needs, and delivering high-quality videos that help them achieve their goals. This approach has resulted in a high client retention rate.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’ve spent countless hours behind the camera, capturing the essence of my clients’ stories. My journey in video production spans across various domains, including advertising, events, and weddings. Each project is a new canvas, a new opportunity to create something meaningful and impactful.
In the realm of advertising, I’ve worked closely with businesses to understand their unique selling propositions. I’ve strived to translate their vision into compelling visuals that resonate with their target audience. The goal has always been to create advertisements that not only promote products or services but also tell a story that viewers can connect with.
When it comes to events, every moment is fleeting and precious. My role has been to encapsulate these moments, turning them into memories that can be revisited time and again. From corporate events to intimate gatherings, I’ve aimed to capture the energy, the emotions, and the interactions that make each event unique.
Weddings, on the other hand, are a celebration of love and unity. As a videographer, I’ve had the privilege of being a part of numerous couples’ special days. I’ve focused on capturing the joy, the tears, the laughter, and the love that fills the air during these occasions. Each wedding video is a testament to the couple’s journey and their love story.
What I take the most pride in, however, is my ability to present clients in their best light. I believe that everyone has a heartfelt message to share, and my job is to bring out this message in the most authentic way possible. Whether it’s a business promoting its mission or a couple expressing their love, I strive to touch the lives of viewers through my work. It’s not just about creating videos; it’s about making a difference, one frame at a time.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Success is about helping people feel connected. Connection is the essence of commerce and business growth.
