Meet Brooke Barnes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Barnes.

Hi Brooke, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started taking pictures at a young age, buying my first Cannon film camera at 13 years old. Taking pictures of my cattle, dog, friends, and family.

By seventeen I was being hired to take my friends’ senior pictures and being featured in the yearbook at school. I attended a photography workshop at the end of last year that re-ignited my passion for photography. Coming out of a 20-year hiatus, I am starting my business over again this year. Photography has always been my passion. I’m so happy I found my way back to it.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve really struggled with Imposter Syndrome. I put my camera down for 20 years because I was afraid no one would like my pictures. I’ve had to learn that there is a photographer for everyone.

There will be days when I’m not sure of myself, but I’ve learned to push past it. I’ve found two good friends and mentors Rachel Kulla of Horsemanship Collective and Kenzie Holmberg Bonafide Cowboy and an am excited to see what the next year brings.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a self-taught Photographer who loves capturing memories and telling stories of the western lifestyle. I thrive to make a product shine through beautiful photographs. My editing style is very natural, I don’t want to over-edit and take away from the story the picture tells.

I am really proud to be able to share my story with your audience and how you can push past that inner critic who tells you that you can’t do it. There will be a million reasons why you shouldn’t try something, but there are always a million why you should.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The industry is always expanding especially with social media and online sales. Photographers will continue to adapt and grow with the needs of the market. They will have to keep up with the trends and keep an eye out for what’s coming next.
