Meet Brock Barnhart of GCI

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brock Barnhart.

Brock, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up in a small town in Montana, I had big dreams and even bigger aspirations to become a significant contributor in everything that I was setting out to do in life. Where it all started, in Montana, I learned valuable nuggets that have helped me in my life journeys. I didn’t realize at the time that those nuggets would become my foundation. My hometown was small, but it packed a powerful punch when it came to its people (such great people in that town that hold a special place in my heart) and especially the people that shaped and influenced my life (family, friends and coaches). My true-life lessons were learned through competing in athletics. I was a three-sport athlete (football, basketball and baseball), all of which I received offers for college scholarships. It was baseball that was the winner. It was that game of inches, as they say, that taught me the most about life. How to be a team player, the development of a strong work ethic and most important respect for people and the game. No matter where my life journeys have taken me, it is those lessons that I have carried with me and have done my best to apply them in my career and everything else I do.

Competing in athletics, I always made sure to be a loyal team player, ensuring that my team got the very best of me each time I competed. I also made sure that I respected the game and the people that played it. All that holds true today on a very different playing field. What has gotten me to where I am? Great question, the thing that has gotten me to where I am today as the Chief Operating Officer of GCI, are people. I am a firm believer it takes the will of the individual to be successful but I believe even more that it is the people around you that play a strong role in what you do and what you become. I guess the short answer is that I have a high-level of respect and cannot thank those people enough (especially my mom and late father) that have believed in me, supported me and never let me give up. Along with my drive and determination, you are the reason I get to work my dream job! The short story on how I got started is through the support, belief and investment people gave to me, had in me and made in me.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The ‘ride’, like most has been bumpy and has had its stretch of tough terrain along the way. Back to those life lessons, it is those lessons that have helped me overcome challenges, hardships and shortcomings! You say what struggles…from losing my father to not fully meeting those big dreams and aspirations that I had while growing up in Montana. Not to dive too deep into the struggles, just like any obstacle course, it takes determination, focus and the will to get through it. Life will continue and it will continue to present obstacles and challenges, but it is this I will always turn to, my compass that points true north to the lessons learned and the inner belief in the power of self and a strong, positive mind.

GCI – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I could spend hours and even days telling you what I do and what our company does. It is so easy to be long winded when you truly love what you do but I will spare the extra words. We are known for communicating with the community, helping companies shape their story and assisting them in obtaining successful results, a public outreach and public relations firm. What sets us apart you ask? The primary thing that sets us apart is our belief in helping people but most importantly, it is our people that make the difference. I could not be prouder and more honored to work alongside the people that I do each day and to serve the most amazing clients that we are blessed to have. Sound amazing? It is and our small public outreach and public relations firm would love an opportunity to show those in our community and business community just how good we are, personally and professionally.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career so far has been seeing the value that I have been able to bring to the company and our clients. I am most proud of the great and talented people I get to work with everyday. Nothing else is more satisfying when we see the superior results that we deliver to our clients and see how those results change their business, initiative or project.
