Meet Brittany Nemec of Brittany Nemec Photography in Glendale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Nemec.

Brittany, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my journey as a photographer when I got engaged in 2014. I started looking for my own photographer and was at a bridal show here in Phoenix. A photography company took a complimentary ring shot for me and I thought, it turned out beautiful so I wanted to try it for myself. My fiance, now husband, at the time had owned a cheaper DSLR camera so I picked it up and started messing around with it. I took photos of everything; my ring, my dogs, his car, etc. I thought it was absolutely exhilarating so, I offered my first session to a family for free and of course, the rest is history!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. Although, I had great support from my clients, my friends and my family, nothing worth fighting for is easy. There is amazing talent in this city, state, country and even world. I had to find something to set myself apart from all the others, which I am still to do this working on. The equipment is not cheap which makes it harder and harder to get where you want to be. Through taking courses online, hours of shooting random subjects in my backyard and messing around with my camera, I finally found out how to use it properly and what “all the little buttons do.” There’s been times where clients aren’t happy with certain photos or wanted them to come out another way or you try to increase your pricing, only to find out people don’t think you are worth that much which can get discouraging. All in all, it has been fairly smooth for me, but not without quite a few bumps and side roads along the way.

Please tell us about Brittany Nemec Photography.
I am a family and wedding photographer based out of Glendale, Arizona but I travel valley wide and even travel out of the valley. I work with a Nikon camera and consider myself a natural light photographer. I prefer to photograph during the peek golden hours of sunrise and sunset.

I am most proud of my company for how far I have come in my journey. From photographing and editing overly contrasted photos to becoming a photographer who now understands her camera, her editing process and everything in between.

What sets me apart from the others is, I am not just in it for money or to be the best. I do it because I love seeing the end result and seeing how happy it makes my clients to receive these beautiful memories that they are so excited and looking forward to.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have not spent so much money on my equipment so quickly. With any new hobby or passion, you need to learn before you go and buy the fun stuff. You would not go and buy a Ferrari for a 15-year old just learning how to drive. I wish I would have learned more about the camera I was first using and fully grasping the concept of how to take a photo properly, before making my next body or lens purchase.
