Meet Brittany Garcia of J’Dee Cakes in West

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Garcia.

Brittany, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started making a cake as a hobby eight years ago when I had my first son. I started helping a family friend make his cakes then decided to try it out by myself and it just went from there. I continued making his birthday cakes and cakes for family, close friends. Also two years ago, my sister and I decided why not try to make a business out of this. We struggled with a name at first but then I thought the whole reason this started was because of our kids and that’s where J’DEE Cakes comes from. Our name is the first initial Of our kid’s names. We’ve been working for the past year to build our clientele and our business. We look forward to what the future brings for us!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, as there is a lot of competition in this business. Also, I am a mother of four and have a full time job, which leaves me limited time for cakes. Often I’m making cakes in the middle of the night usually getting little to no sleep. My sister (partner) is a mother of two and is currently training to become a firefighter. We have busy schedules but definitely make sure we work our cake orders in. I guess you could say time is our biggest competition!

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
J’Dee Cakes is all about custom cakes. We make cakes for any occasion from birthdays to weddings. I would say we are known for our frosting. Our frosting recipe has been passed down from our mother, who actually used to make wedding cakes with her sister. We make an almond buttercream, that is just the right amount of sweet and not too over powering. We can, however, make any flavor frosting our client’s needs. What are we most proud of? I am most proud of how far we have pushed ourselves with the designs of our cakes and always exceeding what our clients vision of their cakes. We make every cake as if it was for our own family.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
My favorite childhood memory would be making cakes with my mom or watching her decorate all of our birthday cakes. My kids now want to help make cakes or will sit and watch me. They are seriously my biggest fans and motivation!
