Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Allgaier.
Hi Brittany, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As her parents, we have always strived to give Norah anything and everything she needs to be as independent and happy as possible. Parenthood is filled with immense joy but for families with children who have disabilities, it also comes with unique challenges and financial burdens. We understand the desire to provide every possible opportunity for our children to thrive, even when the price tag can be overwhelming.
So how did we start this 501c3 non-profit? After receiving several insurance denials for a specialized gait trainer in 2024, Norah’s grandparents organized our first ever fundraiser for Norah. The amount of love and support we received was extremely overwhelming. From that event, The NORAH Foundation was born. We were inspired to spread the love and help as many families as possible. Our mission is to support and empower families by providing financial assistance for essential equipment, therapies and services, ensuring that every child as the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.
Our goal started small, to raise enough funds to support local Arizona children with disabilities in the amount of $1K per month. So far year to date we have more than tripled that goal and we are striving to grow as much as possible!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting The NORAH Foundation has been an incredibly rewarding yet challenging journey for all of us involved. As founders, we are first and foremost parents – juggling full time jobs and family responsibilities, while trying to make a meaningful impact.
One of the biggest struggles we faced was understanding the complexities of the nonprofit world. There is so much to learn about fundraising, compliance, and community engagement that at times we felt like we were in over our heads. However, our passion for helping children like our daughter, Norah, served as a powerful motivator to keep pushing forward.
Our board is composed of a wide variety of individuals: my husband and I as Norah’s parents, Norah’s grandparents, and 4 close family friends who are working professionals both in business and pediatric physical and speech therapy. Each of us manage our own careers and families while contributing time and energy to the foundation. We draw from our diverse backgrounds and experiences in therapy and parenting to guide our efforts, helping us to stay focused on our mission.
Ultimately, each of us understand the struggle that families face and we are determined to make a difference, even if it means wearing multiple hats and learning as we go.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The NORAH Foundation is dedicated to supporting families of children with disabilities by providing access to essential resources. The NORAH acronym stands for Navigating Opportunities, Resources And Hope and while financial assistance may come across as our main goal, there is much more to our mission than just that.
What sets our organization apart from others is our deeply personal connection to our mission. We are not just advocates but also parents and therapists who are navigating the same challenges as the families we serve.
We are most proud of the community we are building – a network of support where families no longer feel isolated in their struggles. By creating a space where shared experiences and resources are shared, we empower families to navigate their journeys with confidence, hope, and a sense of community. The impact we are making, no matter how small, inspires us to keep pushing and growing.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What we love most about Phoenix is the supportive community we have all found to know and love. The access to various therapies and healthcare services in this area is amazing. There are a ton of inclusive activities and events, such as Miracle League of Arizona and Ability360 that we are so appreciative to have access to.
On the flip side, I think our opinion of what we like least about our city may be a common theme.. hot, hot, hot summers! We live for Arizona winters!
