Today we’d like to introduce you to Britney Gray.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Last year I made a decision to chase after me. I’ve always wanted a Cricut machine but never got around to buying one. After getting a divorce I decided it was time I do something for myself so I went on OfferUp and found a Cricut for a reasonable price. I was so eager to get it I put my daughters in our van and raced to meet the seller.
After getting it home I just started playing with it I had no idea how to do anything but I sat and watched tons of YouTube videos and joined tons of groups on Facebook to watch and learn. My shirt that I made I messed it up but my sister said “Let me have it!” So I took a picture of it and gave it to her. I posted a picture of the shirt onto my Facebook page and my sister posted a video of her wearing it and from that, I obtained my first sale. I was so excited and wanted to learn more so I worked hard to learn to how to perfect my craft. From word of mouth, I began to receive more orders. I’ve since learned how to create other things like acrylic tumblers, rolling trays (very popular), vanity trays, makeup accessories, party accessories and so much more.
I want to do more with party planning so I will be venturing into that more so this year. I can only say that it’s been the people who are in my life who have helped me to continue to grow. Word of mouth is definitely one of the best marketing tools around and I’m grateful for everyone who has mentioned or recommend Mama B Craftin to others. I work as hard as I do because of my daughters. I’m so excited for what the future holds.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. I can say that I’ve had moments where I’ve sat and cried and asked myself “is this something I really want to do?” Trying to fulfill orders, cook dinner, give baths, help with homework and still remember to remain positive gets very hard at times. One of the things that keeps me going is that I truly love crafting. It’s hard to be a mother, full-time employee and chase after something that truly makes your heart happy but it’s definitely worth it!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I think right now I’m probably well known for my rolling trays and T-shirts. I’m most proud of the feedback that I get from clients. I love to see the look of satisfaction on their faces when their order is complete. There is such a wide variety of things that I can do that it’s hard to zone in on one thing. I think what sets me apart from others is my customer service. I really truly to go above and beyond and make sure that I do my best on my products. I love to see the clients in their shirts after their done or hear how much someone loves their personalized tray.
What were you like growing up?
I was a quiet kid but I love to laugh! My mom says I’ve always been into arts and crafts and this I remember too. I desired to make things and write books, leave a legacy somewhere. I enjoyed singing I was in choir all four years of high school. I’m a caring person and always have been that’s a blessing and a curse to have a big heart but I’m still
that way today
