Today we’d like to introduce you to Brig Christensen.
Brig is a high-powered entrepreneur, engineer, and contractor with fifteen years of professional experience. Brig graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering currently holds a Class A General Engineering contractor’s license with the AZ ROC. His experience combines engineering, contracting, and inspections. Brig and StormWater Pros has been a consultant to engineers, general contractors, developers, property managers, and others providing storm water management expertise. As a Project Manager and Engineering Consultant Brig has managed 100’s of projects with respect to site drainage, inspection, and maintenance.
Through managing many projects Brig noticed that end user/property owner was either ignoring the inspection and maintenance of the site drainage infrastructure or was not aware of the need. He also noticed the need of an experienced engineer with the background in site design and infrastructure installation to perform this critical work. That is where the idea of StormWater Pros came into play. Brig wanted to offer a company to end-users; property managers, facility maintenance managers, contractors, developers, etc. that offered the background to perform the work correctly and with quality.
Today StormWater Pros has grown to offer Civil Engineering services, video pipeline inspections & evaluations, installation of drainage infrastructure such as drywells, and specialized excavation such as foundation drilling & hydro-excavation. Because StormWater Pros employs several licensed engineers, their engineering background provides a solid foundation to ensure storm water structures are inspected, installed, and maintained properly to keep your site draining. At StormWater Pros they truly are the Pros.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road for sure. Some of the difficulties include:
1. Starting the business in the later part of 2010 & 2011 was tough due to the tough economy and recession
2. I didn’t have a lot of money and finding financing and financial means to fund the business was difficult
3. Learning how to run a business, manage employees, and financially manage a business was new and has taken a lot work and studying.
4. Training employees in a specialized line of work is always a struggle. Additionally, keeping them interested so they say with company for a long period is our goal. Employee turnaround can really be a struggle due to the specialized line of work.
StormWater Pros – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
StormWater Pros provides needed maintenance for storm infrastructure for municipalities, property managers, facility maintenance managers, contractors, developers, etc. Very few companies have the knowledge and experience to perform this line work. This cleaning and maintenance of the drainage infrastructure ensures properties and our cities drain correctly in the time of storms.
StormWater Pros also installs needed and specified drywell systems for municipalities, contractors, developers, etc. StormWater Pros works with Civil Engineers to ensure proper specification of these drywell systems and then performs the field installation with specialized equipment and knowledgeable crews. These drywells ensure properties drain and flooding doesn’t occur when intense rain events hit the Phoenix valley.
Because of engineering experience we can perform proper civil and drainage inspections for properties plagued with drainage issues. StormWater Pros professionally evaluates these troubled properties and come up with cost effective, engineered solutions. Not only do we draft and design a solution, we are able to install and perform the field work with our experienced construction staff. Our capabilities is what sets us apart. Our strong engineering background combined with our construction capabilities. We can design and install drainage projects all within the same company. We can also use our strong engineering background to consult with design engineers on projects to ensure proper drywell specification and assist with value engineering of the proposed drainage infrastructure. Then we can also provide the needed install work at cost effective prices.
We are most proud of all the sites that drain properly around the Phoenix valley due to our services. Hundreds of properties have had drainage & flooding issues resolved due to our maintenance services, engineering evaluations, and installation of drywells and other drainage structures. We love to take a troubled property and fix it so drainage issues are only thoughts in the past.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moments so far are as follows:
1. Growing the company to the point where I could provide jobs to strong, hardworking individuals that deserve an excellent work environment to work. I pride my company in being a clean, professional, hardworking work place where you are not required to sacrifice your personal/family life. I am proud of my employees, their families, and lives. I feel it an honor to employ such people and am very proud that our company is fortunate to have them on board.
2. We have had the honor to completely re-engineer some large properties such as shopping malls and residential communities that had severe drainage/flooding issues. We engineered solutions and field crews did all the site retrofit work. When all the work was completed the rains came down and our solutions worked correctly and solved the issues at hand. Pleasing the customer with the full array of all of our services was definitely a proud moment
3. Installing our drywell systems on large projects has also been a proud moment. We’ve been able to install our drywell systems for municipal projects, airports, water treatments plants, and many other types of project. Seeing our systems on a variety of large projects has been proud moments.
