Meet Brian Helton of Helton Brewing Company in Old Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Helton.

Helton Brewing Company is a small brewery designed to add to the ever-growing Arizona love of craft beer by leveraging the skills of the founder, brewmaster, and Certified Cicerone, Brian Helton. Brian has won multiple World Beer Cup Awards and The Great American Beer Festival Awards. He has worked in the industry for nineteen years, which constitutes a generation as a brewmaster.

Brian has brewed thousands of batches of beer, including over 60 different styles, throughout his career. As a Certified Cicerone, he has worked with some of the best chefs in the brewing industry to produce many menus and brewer’s dinners.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Cash positive since day one. It’s been a smooth road.

Helton Brewing Company – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are known for our Pilsner, Northeast IPA, and our Sour Ales.

Our atmosphere in the brewery is unique from other restaurants in the valley. I tour down two barns in Indiana to build our tasting room. We have a picture of one of the barns hanging above the bar for the customers to see where the wood and roof tin originated from. I built the bar and all bar tables from raw wood from a sawmill in Indiana and shipped everything back in a truck.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
A slow and steady growth on our wholesale side of the business. As for the tasting room, I define success by the smiles on the patron’s faces and how many beers they consume at the bar.
