Meet Brenda Soto

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Soto.

Hi Brenda, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hello! I’m Brenda, a first-time mom and first-generation Mexican-American who graduated from ASU with a master of science in engineering. I am an “Artistic Engineer” because I love art, finding creative solutions, marketing, and anything that requires thinking outside the box!

Throughout my career, I have had the fortune of having role models, advocates, and great mentors that have shaped the young professional I am today. For this reason, I understand the important role a mentor or an advocate can play for a student or a young professional in their career. STEMinist Army is born from this realization. Join us as we strive to close the gap by raising STEM career awareness! My sincere goal is to raise STEM career awareness for women by sharing powerful stories of real-time feminists who are making a difference worldwide. I consider myself very passionate and driven in everything I do, and this drive has led me to explore new projects that speak to me! Another project I’m working on is @musgodesigns, my moss and succulent arrangement shop! My goal is to create beautiful and artistic arrangement pieces that will add a lush color to any space!

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Managing motherhood, work, STEMinist Army, and now Musgo Designs Can be challenging, but that keeps me motivated and busy. Keeping myself busy in these projects keeps my energy high and positive.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I graduated from ASU with my master’s of science in engineering and immediately started working in traffic engineering. I love my career of choice and that I get to implement creative solutions to improve your everyday life.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The characteristic I find important for success in anything I decide to do is constancy. Committing and taking ownership have proven that I can accomplish anything I set my mind to do with hard work and perseverance.
