Meet Brekyn Johnson of Vocals in East Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brekyn Johnson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Brekyn. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been singing since I was 10 years old! My dad has always been in a band, and I would sing and play guitar with them starting at the age of about 12. One of my best friends asked if I could sing at her wedding in 2016, and I loved the idea. I had so much fun that I quickly turned it in to a business, and my customer base has grown so much since. I am currently a full-time student, so it’s nice that my business is so fun for me, and that I can still run it while in school. I now sing at weddings, birthday parties, restaurants, and a variety of special occasions. I have so much fun doing this, and I am always shocked at the amount of amazing people I meet every time, and the appreciation that they have for my singing; it is truly the best compliment when people are thrilled with my performances!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Getting to where I am now took some time, and I still have many goals and things I want to accomplish with my music career. One struggle has been balancing my business with my already busy schedule. When I first started out, all of the little tasks and expenses quickly piled up, which made me super nervous. With every business comes investing at the beginning, and for a poor college student, it wasn’t so easy to put money in to something that I wasn’t sure I would make back. I was so wrong! Investing in this business has been the best decision ever, and I am so happy with everything that has come of it. Right now I would say my struggle is learning how to expand beyond what I currently do; by the end of this year, I want to be regularly performing at large charity and/or military events.

Brekyn Johnson Vocals is a live music business, specializing in weddings and any special occasions. I (Brekyn) am the owner and founder, and I started this whole journey in 2016, when I was 19 years old. I do many events by myself, where I sing and play guitar, but I also have a phenomenal guitarist, who accompanies me when my customer requests an additional guitarist. My guitarist, Ryan, has been playing for over 15 years, and is extremely adept at what he does. I highly recommend having him at events, as his expertise enhances any and every event we perform at. Based on what I have heard from my customers and their reviews, I would say my young age and strong drive is what impresses people and sets me apart from others who run a similar business. People have mentioned that they love how I sing such a wide variety of music, and that they enjoy when I put a whole new spin on a song that you wouldn’t think I could typically sing. I have a ton of fun doing what I do, and it truly shows in my performances!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I have so many plans for the future! This year, my goal is to be working with charities and the military at their public and private events. I hope to start my own charity once I have more time on my hands, which will most likely be after I graduate from school! I plan to be working with an agent within the next couple years as well, writing my own music and potentially getting recognized on a larger scale.
