Meet Brant Miller of Vintage Statements in North Central Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brant Miller.

At the heart of Vintage Statements is a creative couple who loves to spark inspiration within their clients’ homes. Brant and Marie Miller thrive on the excited conversations their pieces elicit from houseguests. Their vision is that once those guests learn where the piece was created, they can’t wait to learn more about who made it.

The Millers began their journey in 2012, collaborating on about three projects a month with the goal of making some extra date night cash. Marie weaves a dream from an idea and Brant brings that dream to life. As word spread and the phone calls and emails rolled in, they established Vintage Statements in 2014, a year shy of tying the knot. Now they produce about two projects a week.

To an ever-growing list of new projects, they add everything from kitchen tables to desks to coffee tables to wine decor. As their business grows, so the original Vintage Statement Creations.

A large portion of their workload revolves around refurbishing classic pieces. Learn more about Vintage Statements and watch their start-to-finish tutorials on YouTube.com/c/VintageStatements.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We haven’t had any major struggles. Sometimes pieces take a little longer to sell then what might have been expected but that comes with the territory of creating your own style and trying to match it to the demand of potential customers. From the start, it was slow as I did not have all the tools one would think to create some of the projects we did. I had to gain a tool here and there so that I could expand my projects.

The biggest challenge is really expressing what a client wants from a piece we are redoing from them. They sometimes can’t see the end vision or color but love our work.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Vintage Statements – what should we know?
We take old furniture pieces and bring them back to life. We will pick up pieces, sand them down and paint them to create our final products. Sometimes this includes having to fix issues such as tracks not working correctly, loose drawer pieces, missing hardware, just to name a few things; but it is just a journey we take with each piece. We do a lot of refurbishing of dressers, kitchen tables, coffee tables, side tables, nightstands, buffet and credenza pieces. We focus on creating something new from vintage pieces. We also do a lot of farm style or cottage looking pieces which has been very popular. We sometimes create amazing pieces outside of that range also as fun projects. Our custom kitchen tables and desks line is one our clients love. We even have a few of our custom pieces featured in local restaurants around the valley such as Base Pizzeria and The Smith’s in Arcadia.

What sets us apart is that we have built our business through social media and have no store front. It keeps our costs down and allows us to focus on marketing much more specific to our target markets. We have gotten to a point where we have a great support following and clients that help us get the word out. We also have started our own YouTube channel that people can watch us redo these pieces or create new pieces. We grow slow but we are always creating new ideas and projects that people love.

I am most proud of our company for its ability to be done alongside my wife. We are taking our ideas and creating them. What we come up with is pieces that people love. I love that we have completely grown organically and only done projects we wanted. We are always thinking of ideas and ways to make projects that people fall in love with.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Customer service is a large part of our business. We try to give each person a truthful approach to buying our products. Clients can see our whole entire process of where the piece began and ended on our YouTube channel. We try to respond to clients very quickly to allow them the opportunity to get their questions answered. This leads to repeat business and word of mouth referrals.

We do the best work that we can and are continually getting better at this craft. All of our success is based around being honest, friendly, listening to what people are wanting and being responsive. We never push a customer into buying. We just watch them fall in love with a piece and help them navigate the purchase. When clients come to see a piece, they will buy the piece for its quality and charm. We create a vision that they can see these pieces in their own home.
