Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon McElroy.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up riding dirt bikes but most importantly breaking them. So, I had to learn to fix them to continue to ride! I joined the Air Force in 1999 and after my first deployment I bought my first street bike, once again I found myself fixing my own bike…. then having a garage full of my friends’ bikes to repair. So, I started taking little classes on line and 1 at a small trade school in Fayetteville NC where I was stationed. At that point I put in a request to be stationed in Arizona it’s called Base of Preference out of 5 choices Luke AFB in Glendale AZ was my 1st choice so I could attend MMI. It must have been meant to be because I was able to relocate out here. So, I spent from 2006 to 2008 on active duty, going to MMI 5hrs a day 5 day a week and on my off time from the Air Force I worked at the Local dealership…….and taking in side jobs in my garage. Not long after finishing MMI I opened a VERY small shop in a little warehouse district and grew my business while on active duty. I got out of the AF in Jan of 2011 and been slammed with work every day since
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I can’t say it has been smooth or rough it has been long and exciting. I have been very fortunate to have a super supportive wife and family that puts up with the long hours and 15 days straight with no time off. Rescheduling vacations and birthday parties to get work finished. The hardest part I believe though is not chasing the “FADS” staying true to what we do here.
Please tell us about Anti-Hero Cycles.
” Built to GO! Not to Show.” This has been my goal since day 1. I always watched those Build off shows and watched them break down and not be ride able. We specialize in doing the Job right the first time. When it comes to repairs 99% of shops just change the broken part and send you on your way. I have taken my experience from the military aircraft world and applied it to our shop. Let’s see what broke and why what else could have been affected.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Nothing, I believe this path I am on is where I am supposed to be any mistakes I have made I learned from and made me better.
