Meet Brandon Boetto of SlabHaus in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Boetto.

Brandon, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my professional career as a graphic designer in 2001. I bounced around to a few different sign shops before landing at a great company called blue media. I worked there for 8 years as a graphic designer and online marketing director. This is where I learned the ins and outs of running a small business. I got to see a company successfully grow from 10 people and 300k a year to 150 people and 15 million a year. I was always interested in design whether it be print or industrial design & architecture.

I would frequent design blogs all the time and that is where I found my love of concrete. I saw a picture of a sink online and after some research, I found out that the guy who made it lived in Phoenix and taught classes. That was the beginning of this journey. I reached out and signed up for a class and the rest is history. I started with my tinkering in my garage for 2 years until I could eventually afford to move into a small shop space that I shared with a friend. I eventually got laid off from my job and decided to go full in with my company SlabHaus in 2013.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
To say that is has been a bumpy road would be a huge understatement. I think all small businesses are faced with numerous challenges. We had a business partnership that unfortunately didn’t work out and took us a year to recover from. It was unfortunate but at the same time a huge learning opportunity.

I think having a great network of mentors & friends that you can bounce questions off is key. There is no handbook for success so much of small business is about weighing the options and just going for it.

Please tell us about SlabHaus.
SlabHaus is a decorative concrete studio specializing in high-end concrete design. We design & create products for commercial and residential applications. We produce custom sinks, tile, dining & conference tables, & furniture. 95% of our business is concrete and the other 5% is steel.

For only being in business for a few years we are proud to say we have worked for some incredible companies like Kimpton Hotels, PeterMax Co, Chris Pardo Design & numerous contractors nationwide. Our look is very clean and modern and our products are hand built using the best material available to ensure years of worry-free use.

I am most proud of building a company that allows me the freedom of living my life on my terms. I get to work with some of the most talented designers & builders in the country because we have built a product and service that they have come to respect and admire from a small shop.

What sets us apart from some of the other concrete companies is our dedication to our client’s success. We have no problem staying til 2 am to finish projects or driving hours for meetings. We do what it takes to not only get the job done but to impress the client with service they don’t expect from a small company.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I am a third generation Arizona native. I grew up in Mesa and have many memories of riding my bike for miles down the canal paths. I remember loving to go to Pioneer Park in Mesa to play on the train they had placed in the park.

They recently did a huge renovation of the park and it brought back a lot of great childhood memories. It has been great seeing the growth that Phoenix has gone through in the last 3 years.
