Today we’d like to introduce you to Braiden McKee.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Braiden. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I founded Dog Moms of Phoenix in 2017. I was looking to connect with more people and dog lovers like myself. Right away, our membership grew to about 400 or 500 members with just a short Facebook ad inviting women to join our group. Since then, all of our growth has been organic and word of mouth. Our community has been incredible to be a part of. A majority of our members are engaged in our group every single week which is amazing. We have gone from a community that just shares pictures of our cute pups to form actual friendships. Dog Moms of Phoenix has brought together rescue dogs with their forever homes, created dog mom friendships, and given back to our local shelters and non-profits.
We just had our first official meetup in October and have our next event in the works for December. We have some Dog Moms of Phoenix gear now too. Currently, we have 1,400+ members in our community (and growing daily), have a few sponsorships to connect our members with local businesses, and have more meetups and events being planned for 2020!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part, founding this community has been so much fun! Of course, with a large group of members conflict can arise from time to time. Thankfully, I have a couple of moderators that help me to keep everything running slowly and to make sure we honor our community at all times. It’s also been interesting bringing gear and events to the community. Ultimately, I’m here to serve our members and what they want. As part of the growing process, that includes trying out ideas that don’t always take off like how I imagined. It comes down to really asking questions and finding out the specifics of what our dog mamas desire from our community.
Please tell us about your organization.
We are a community organization/social club. My number one goal was to foster community and relationships and I think we have found that. I’ve seen our community come together for each other multiple times, and wow, it was amazing. Earlier this year we had a member come to the group needing some help with her dog. It ended up being revealed that her family was having some temporary setbacks and in real need. Our group came together in full support of her and her family. They continued to do so until they got back on their feet.
Witnessing that kind of kindness and generosity can’t be beaten.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment is realizing the engaged relationships and community that’s been created by this passion project. When I started this, I had no idea the community would grow to be this big or connected.
