Meet Brad Taylor of Special Moments Catering in Tempe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brad Taylor.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Brad. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My family started the company in 1984 with a $300 dollar business loan from AZ Federal Credit Union. The business was originally intended to be a part time job for my mother but quickly grew and eventually, all 4 members of the immediate Taylor family became involved. We have owned 2 restaurants and are now solely a catering company. We have won numerous awards including Tempe’s 2018 Sustainable business award. We have been a part of the last two Superbowls here in Phx and currently are one of the largest privately held catering businesses in Arizona.

Has it been a smooth road?
NO, it has not! We faced a great financial struggle in 2008 – 2013 when we purchased our first restaurant. The location sits on the water and is still known by the name we gave it Pier 54. The economy crashed reducing customer attendance in half and additionally one year after purchase the HOA decided to tear out the lower dock our restaurant sat on. They were running jack hammers for months and the construction took over a year to complete. Considering all seating is patio the noise, dust, and irritation of the construction lead to numerous customers walking in and simply walking out, completely destroying our lunch clientele.

Additionally, in December of 2017, my Daughter was diagnosed with Leukemia. We are still in the middle of that trial but have been able to maintain our business among all of the treatment and hospital visits.

We’d love to hear more about your business.

Our cuisine boasts menu items that fuse classic French cooking with a Southwest flare. We are affordable, accommodating, and delicious!

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I do! I think the Phoenix area is always growing. Simply look at the population numbers and the infrastructure in many of the cities surrounding the metro are designed to attract big business. ASU is and will always be a huge part of our business and culture as 2 of the 4 managing partners hold degrees from the College of Business. I believe we are currently living in one of the most vibrant and changing cities in the USA.
